French Honor Society Announces Officers

Homecoming Court Announced

Think Pink Campaign a Success
Thank you to all the faculty, staff, and students who participated in the door and locker decorating campaign and dress down day to benefit the Norma Pfriem Breast Care Center. The staff winner was Mrs. Morales and the student winner was Andrea Quiles '18. Notre Dame was able to present a check for $750 to the board members.

Open House Crowd Largest In Years
A big thank you to all who helped spread the word about Notre Dame's Open House for prospective students held this last Sunday. 250 families visited Notre Dame, toured the campus and heard about what the ND community has to offer. A special thanks to all the current students and parents who volunteered to assist at Open House. As a reminder - any families who have an Open House sign on their front lawn are asked to return signs to Notre Dame at your convenience.

Campus Ministry Halloween Party
Campus Ministry sponsored our annual Big Bother Big Sister Halloween party  on Thursday . Second and third graders from Assumption School in Fairfield went trick or treating around the classrooms, participated in dance class with Mrs. Hong, decorated Halloween cookies and cards, and had delicious snacks. Thank you to all the staff and students who participated. 

Trunk or Treat
On Wednesday , Campus Ministry sponsored the 3rd Annual Trunk or Treat. Alumni, current families, and area schools were invited to come trick or treat around our decorated cars, play spooky games, and have snacks. A gigantic thank you to all the students, parents, faculty, and staff who participated on both ends. A special thank you to Kathy Stefanatos for running the snack table. 

Look What's New with ND's Modern Language Department
The Masks Are Back!  Our Spanish AP classes are helping to continue traditional autumn celebrations by creating their own masks.  Students painted and decorated their masks and will compose their very own short story centering around themes of drama and mystery.
Dance Students Perform at Open House
The ND Dancers performed for prospective students and their families at our Open House. Numbers included those in rehearsal for the Winter Arts Concert on  Wednesday, December 7th , and the Fall Pep Rally number. ND Students also answered questions about our Dance Program and the Arts Scholarship opportunities.

Parent and Student Update
Yearbook Pictures - November 2
All freshmen, sophomores and juniors will have their pictures taken for the Yearbook on Wednesday, November 2. Families have the option to order a picture package. Flyers will be distributed to students in advance and those who wish to order pictures should bring their order envelope with exact payment to school  on Wednesday. Robert Taylor Photography is also offering parents the option to pre-order pictures online by clicking here. The school code to enter is ndhs16. Order packages and retouching can be ordered through  November 9.
Juniors - Boston Payment Due By Nov. 2
Juniors are reminded that final payment for the Boston trip is due to the Main Office no later than  Wednesday, November 2 .
Jesuit Colleges to Visit ND - November 3
On Thursday, November 3, the Jesuit Excellence Tour (JET)  will be coming to ND. Sophomores and Juniors will have the opportunity to come to the cafeteria with their classes to meet and speak with representatives from the following colleges:

Veteran's Day Prayer Service
On Friday, November 11, Notre Dame will conduct our annual Veteran's Day Prayer Service, remembering all those who served in our armed forces. Over the years, we have compiled a listing of graduates who served our country. This year, 
we would like to add to our list the names of any parents who have served in the military . If you have served in the armed forces, please email Chris Cipriano at with your name, your child's name, your branch of service and years served so we can add you to our list.

In addition, we are still seeking a veteran to speak to our students about their experience in the military. If you are interested in speaking at our prayer service (November 11, beginning at 8:30 am), please let Mr. Cipriano know.

Finally, we will be hosting a reception for veterans following the prayer service this year. All veterans are invites to join us for the service which will be held in the Sacred Heart University Chapel and the reception which will immediately follow in the Notre Dame library. Host Family Needed
CIEE is seeking a loving family from the Notre Dame community to host two great students. The girls have been a part of the school since August and their current host mother is no longer able to provide transportation. It would be a dual placement with dual stipends. ND Travel Group to Visit Ireland
The Notre Dame Travel Group will be traveling to Ireland this year from April 7 - 17. Students, teachers, parents, alumni, alumni parents and friends of our school community are invited to participate. The Ireland Heritage Tour is being organized by Mr. Carl Philipp, Assistant Principal, and Dr. Mary Callaghan, Academic Dean. Both have many years of experience in organizing and directing European travel groups. Plans currently include a 9-night, 10-day visit to the Emerald Isle. The approximate cost is $3300.00. The cost includes airport transfers in the US and Europe. In Ireland, the group will travel by deluxe motor coach. Accommodations are in 3-and 4-star hotels in double/triple rooms. Single rooms are available at additional cost. Overnights include Galway, Westport, Dublin, Cork, Dingle, Killarney and the Bunratty/Shannon area. Meals include 9 full Irish or buffet breakfasts at hotels. Dinners are included each night at local restaurants or hotels. Lunches are not included. Comprehensive sightseeing is offered by our coach driver/escort and local guides for city sightseeing & at special attractions. Our visit includes some free-time. Optional tours which often add substantial costs to European trips are not offered. Except for lunches and personal purchases, we have tried to include all expenses in the cost of the trip. Click here for more information. 
Appalachia 2017 Applications Due By November 18
Sophomores, juniors and seniors interested in applying for the 2017 service trip to Appalachia are reminded that applications are due no later than  November 18 . Club  Updates

Campus Ministry 
This week's mite box raised over $200 for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.  The winning homeroom was Ms. Alberti's and they will receive a dress down day next week.  The next mite box will be on Wednesday, November 9th for Homes for the Brave.

Link Crew Red Carpet Movie Night
Link Crew is hosting a Red Carpet Movie Night for Freshmen on Wednesday, November 2 at 5:30 pm in the gym.  Admission is two canned goods for a local food pantry.  Snacks will be provided and you can bring your own as well if you would like.  Bring a comfy fold up chair, blanket, or sleeping bag.
Save the Date! - Convivio March 3 - 5
Every year in the Diocese of Bridgeport, over two-hundred teens take part in a weekend event named CONVIVIO, an international conference of Catholic youth. The program first came to the United States in 2010. Coming from different towns and regions, teens meet at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield to be challenged in their Faith and to encounter Christ. This year's event will be held from March 3 - 5, 2017. Click here for more information.

Nominations are Now Being Accepted for the 2017 Alumni Hall of Fame
This award honors individuals whose deeds and character exemplify outstanding achievement in their life's work and/or service to their communities. The honoree's spirit and leadership are worthy of recognition and have inspired praises and gratitude among his or her peers. 

Deadline for nominations for 2017 is  Friday, November 11, 2016 . Next year's Alumni Hall of Fame inductions will be held on March 11, 2017 during the Lancer Legacy Gala.  Click here for more information and a nomination form.

Scrapbooking Event - November 19th
Join us on Saturday, November 19 from 10am - 6pm for a day of scrapbooking fun! The cost is $40 per person and all proceeds benefit Notre Dame.  There will be vendors, raffle prizes and goodie bags with a continental breakfast, lunch & dessert provided! Guidance Department Update
College Rep Visits
Visits from college representatives are well underway. Seniors should look on Naviance for the full schedule. Seniors must sign up on Naviance to visit with a college representative. Once signed up, please stop by the Guidance Office at least two days prior to get a pass for that day. No student will be allowed to leave homeroom without a pass.  All visits will be at 8:00 a.m. in Room 205.

High School Essay Contest
Volunteer Square is thrilled to kick off their annual high school essay contest in partnership with Hearst Connecticut Media. The essay contest invites high school students in Fairfield County to tell us what community service means to them. Click here for more information. Deadline is November 7, 2016. Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting
The Palace in Stamford is pleased to announce the third annual Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting. The 2017 scholarships will be awarded to three high school students for their writing of an original 15 minute, one act play. The three winning plays will be have a stage reading of their play at the Palace with professional New York actors. The students' will assist in directing their play during rehearsals the day of the reading. Criteria and an application can be obtained by clicking here. The deadline for submission is

Athletics Update
Lancer Week In Review
The Football team played a great second half which propelled them to a 38-20 win over Bethel on Homecoming weekend.  Despite the rain and cold, the team fought hard all game and came out on top.  Mike Bevino '17 had 2 receptions for 90 yards and two touchdowns - one touchdown was an interception return.  Micah Brantley '18 threw for 110 yards, had 5 carries for 32 yards and a touchdown.  Taevion Jackson '20 had 27 carries for 212 yds and three touchdowns. The team will be in action again  on Friday (10/28) against Weston away at  7:00 pm.  

The Girls' Soccer team finished the regular season this past week going 1-1, losing to a tough Masuk team (1-0) and defeating New Milford (2-0) completing their regular season at 12-1-3, the best regular season record ever for a girls' soccer team. Leading the way for the Lancers was Samantha LaValle '17 (2 goals) and Kascia Zawadzki '19 with an assist.  Samantha Camacho '18 had a great game in the loss to Masuk making 20 saves.  In the win against New Milford, Samantha made 3 saves and recorded her 10th shutout on the season. The girls are seeded third in the SWC tournament and will host a Quarterfinal game  on Saturday (10/29) at  12 noon at Veteran's Park vs. Immaculate.  If the girls win  on Saturday, they will advance to the SWC Semi-Finals  on Tuesday (11/1) at Pomperaug.  Time and opponent is TBD.  Good Luck  on Saturday!  CIAC Class M State Tournament information will be announced next week.

The Boys' Soccer team also completed their regular season this past week going 1-0-1 tying Masuk (2-2) and defeating Weston (2-1)  The boys finish the season with a record of 10-2-4, like the girls, one of the best records in program history.  Felipe Canzian '18 had 3 goals, Max Cano '17 1 goal, and Colin Burke '17, Vinicius Santana '17, and Sean Buzzee '19 each with an assist in the the two games for the Lancers.  The boys are also seeded third in the SWC tournament and will host a Quarterfinal game  on Friday (10/28) at  3:30 pm at Veteran's Park vs Newtown.  If the boys win  on Friday, they will advance to the SWC Semi-Finals  on Tuesday (11/1).  The boys would play at Barlow.  Time and opponent is TBD.  Good Luck  on Friday!  CIAC Class S State Tournament information will be announced next week.

The Girls' Volleyball team finished their regular season this past week going 2-1 losing a tough match to Bunnell (3-2) but defeating both Bethel (3-0) and Bullard Havens (3-0).  The girls finished with a 13-7 record and are the 7th seed in the SWC tournament.  The girls were lead this past week by Liv Silva '17, Kim Valdovinos '17, Gabby Joseph '18, Zuquila Mbachiantim '18, and Michaela Luk '18.  The girls are in action  on Thursday (10/27) in the Quarter-Finals of the SWC tournament.  The girls will be playing Barlow.  Good Luck!  The CIAC Class S tournament information will be released next week. 

The Boys' and Girls' Cross Country teams will be competing in the CIAC Class SS State Championship Meets  this Saturday  (10/29) at Wickham Park in Manchester, CT.  Good luck to both teams!
