ND Happenings
Back to School Mass & Guest Speaker

On Thursday, the Notre Dame community gathered in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit on the campus of Sacred Heart University for our first whole school mass of the year. Notre Dame Chaplain Fr. Luke Suarez celebrated mass. Following mass, Scarlett Lewis, mother of Jesse Lewis who died in the tragic events at Sandy Hook in 2012, spoke to our community. Scarlett has founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement and shared her powerful story and hope that more people will choose love and forgiveness over hate. Following her forty minute talk, Notre Dame presented a mural which was created at the end of last school year by students in  Dr. Callaghan's and Ms. Medoff's classes. The Choose Love mural will travel with six others made in other Connecticut high schools last spring to Washington, DC where they will be displayed in the US Capitol thanks to the efforts of Ms. Lewis and Senator Blumenthal.

ND's 60th Anniversary Mass
On Sunday, September 11, Notre Dame kicked off its 60th anniversary celebration with a Mass of Thanksgiving at Assumption Church in Fairfield. Assumption hosted this mass since the very first ND classes were held at Assumption while the original Notre Dame building was still under construction. Rev. Luke Suarez celebrated mass with concelebrants former Notre Dame Chaplain and current Pastor of Assumption Church, Rev. Peter Cipriani,   Rev. Thomas Lynch, Pastor of St. James in Stratford, ND Class of 1962, and  Rev. Robert Crofut, pastor of St. Pius X Parish in Fairfield, ND Class of 1964.  Click here to read a letter from Bishop Caggiano regarding Notre Dame's 60th anniversary.

Religion Classes Reflect on Tattoos On The Heart
Mr. Vigliotta's sophomore religion classes discussed compassion and related it to stories from ND's summer reading book Tattoos On The Heart. Students looked at quotes about compassion, discussed their meaning and how they related to them. The students created their own quotes and definitions of compassion and then they drew symbols that they thought best represented compassion.
