ND Spotlight
Alumn Publishes Travel Book
Lisa Wisniewski Voegle '88, has recently published a travel reference guide, FOOD & FOLKLORE:  A YEAR OF ITALIAN FESTIVALS. The book provides a brief summary of fun facts about each region of Italy, a focus festival for each region and lists 15-30 recommended festivals as well as "how-to" tips for finding them.
She will be at the Fairfield University Bookstore on the Post Road in Fairfield on Saturday, October 1st from 4-6 pm for an author "meet and greet" and book signing.  Currently she writes a weekly blog  and further information can be found on her website, .  Currently Lisa resides in Snowmass Village, Colorado just outside of Aspen. This is a first in a series of festival reference travel guides and she is currently working on her second installment (SPAIN) with a planned release of Spring 2017.
ND Happenings
ND Dance Classes Visit SHU for a Hop Hop Master Class
On Tuesday, September 20, students from ND Dance classes were invited  to take a Hip Hop Master Class with Kim Elliott at Sacred Heart  University where Ms. Hong is an adjunct professor. Ms. Elliott is an  adjunct professor at New York University and Marymount Manhattan  College. Students learned about the roots of Hip Hop culture,  musicality, confidence building, freestyling, popping, and whacking.  Much fun was had by all who attended. Pictured with Ms. Elliott and SHU students are ND students  Megan Loiz, Hesper Du, Jordan Crawford, John Zhang, Herla Monrose,  Deja Bynoe, Aleeyah Bussell, and Ms. Hong. Upcoming Service Opportunities
Touch a Truck
St. James in Stratford is hosting Touch a Truck at DeLuca Field in Stratford on  Saturday, October 1. They are in need of student volunteers between the hours of  8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Please see Miss Medoff if you are interested.  
Redeemable Drive
The Parent Association is looking for volunteers to help with their redeemable drive on  Saturday, October 1.  Please see Miss Medoff if interested.
Football Game Cleanup 
Mr. Minei is in need of help cleaning up after  this Saturday's home football game which starts at  1:00. Please see him or Miss Medoff if interested.
Campus Ministry
Campus Ministry is meeting on Wednesday, September 28th at 2:05 in room 201A.  Sign ups for October's activities will be available.

Mite Box
Thanks to everyone who donated to last week's mite box collection for Habitat for Humanity.  ND raised over $250.  The winning homeroom was Mrs. Almeida's and her homeroom will have a dress down day this Monday.  Next week's collection on  September 28 is for the Danni Kemp Cancer Support Fund.  Danni is a Milford teenager who was recently diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.  Please consider being generous to help support her and her family during this difficult time.
College Essay Workshop - October 19th
Members of the English Department will be available to help seniors with their college essays on  October 19th  (Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Guidance Testing Day). Students will be able to get help wherever they are in the process.  There will be workshop rooms for brainstorming/selecting a topic, revision/feedback, and editing.  A sign up sheet will be in room 207.
Come to ND's Coffee House Night 
On  Friday, September 30 , the Drama Club will be holding its first Coffee House Night at  7:00 pm  in the cafeteria.  This relaxed performance venue will function as an open mic night, during which any student who wishes to perform is encouraged to do so - just come prepared.  Students are also encouraged to bring art to display.  The event is open to all members of the extended ND family, and there will be a bake sale and, of course, coffee.  Any parents who wish to volunteer should contact Mr. St.Onge at

The ND Parent Association  is an integral part of the Notre Dame Family.  Our mission is to enhance the high school experience by hosting events that positively impact our students, families, teachers, alumni and friends. Membership dues are $10 per family, which allow us to support the school with extra events, activities and purchases.

Whether you have a lot of time to give or very little, there are many ways for you to get involved and share your gifts and talents. Fall Flower Sale - TODAY!
Support ND with this NEW Fundraiser!  All proceeds from this sale will help support the purchase of mobile charging stations  for our students to use! Skip the lines at Home Depot and buy your mums and pumpkins at ND this year!  The sale will take place outside in our parking lot on  Saturday, September 24  from  Noon - 4:00pm .
Redeemable Drive - October 1
Start saving your bottles and cans and bring them to ND on Saturday, October 1 from 8:00am - Noon.  This NEW fundraiser is an easy way to support ND - tell your friends and neighbors!  We need 5 student volunteers to help - please email  to sign up.
Walk A Thon - October 21
The Walk A Thon will take place on  Friday, October 21 .  There will be food and drinks for the students to purchase and we will be looking for volunteers to donate water, food and your time!  Details will follow in upcoming ND Updates.
Homecoming Game and Food Truck Festival - October 22
Join us for the 2nd Annual Food Truck Festival and Homecoming Game! The ND Cheerleading Team will also be hosting a clothing drive as well - see attached for details! Bring your family and friends!

The ND Baking Committee is back! If you like to bake, please consider joining to help with various school events throughout the year. This is a great opportunity to lend a hand and show off your skills! Even if you're not a baker, we'll take purchased baked goods (we'll never turn down a cookie!). Guidance Department Update
Attention Senior Parents
The Guidance Office has mailed home letters to senior parents regarding a college planning and application process meeting. The meeting will be held on Monday, September 26  at 7:00p.m. in the Martire Theatre, which is located in the School of Business (on the corner of Park Ave. and Jefferson St.). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Guidance Office at 203-374-2618.
College Rep Visits
Visits from college representatives have begun. Seniors should look on Naviance for the full schedule. Seniors must sign up on Naviance to visit with a college representative. Once signed up, please stop by the Guidance Office at least two days prior to get a pass for that day. No student will be allowed to leave homeroom without a pass.  All visits will be at 8:00 a.m. in Room 205.

Upcoming PSAT Testing
On Wednesday, October 19, the freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT.  This is a practice test for the SAT's.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Guidance Office/Mrs. Lisa Seperack at (203) 374-2618.
2016 Congressional App Challenge
The 2016 Congressional App Challenge is now open. Apps must be submitted before the deadline on November 2nd at 12:00 pm.

High School students are eligible to participate in the challenge. Students can sign up as individuals or in a team of up to four. All apps will be presented before a panel of judges for consideration. Winners will be honored by their Member of Congress and have their apps featured on a display in the Capitol Building, as well as on the  Congressional App Challenge website !
Submission Process:
  • Register on CongressionalAppChallenge.US and complete entry form
  • Create your App, you can use the resources provided below for assistance
  • Submit demonstration video of app, no longer than three minutes, in which participant describes what the app does, what the intended audience is, what tools were used to create it, and how it works

Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting
The Palace in Stamford is pleased to announce the third annual Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting. The 2017 scholarships will be awarded to three high school students for their writing of an original 15 minute, one act play. The three winning plays will be have a stage reading of their play at the Palace with professional New York actors. The students' will assist in directing their play during rehearsals the day of the reading. Criteria and an application can be obtained by clicking here. The deadline for submission is

Wendy's Scholarship

Athletics Update
Lancer Week In Review
Football picked up their first win of the season last week in an exciting game against Barlow by a score of 20-13.  Leading the way for the Lancers was  Micah Brantley '18 who was 13-19, 125 yards and threw for two touchdowns and Mike Bevino '17 who had 8 receptions for 75 yds and two touchdowns.  Taevion Jackson '20 had 18 rushes for 120 yds and one touchdown.  Clyde Auba '18 made ten tackles in the win.  Football will be in action again on Saturday, September 24 at 1pm at ND vs. Masuk.

Boys' soccer continued to stay undefeated as they tied Immaculate 0-0.  ND Goalie Marcelo DeSouza '19 had 4 saves in the game.  

Girls' Soccer also stay undefeated with a 2-2 tie against Immaculate.  The girls came back after being down 2-0 with goals from Kasha Zawadzki '19 and Samantha LaValle '17.  

Volleyball played two of the top teams in the league this past week in Newtown and Barlow.  Despite losses to both, ND competed very well.  They got back on the winning track vs. Immaculate posting a 3-0 score. Leading the way for the Lancers was Livia Silva '17 who served up 8 aces and earned 9 kills. Michaela Luk '18 also contributed by serving 5 aces herself. 

Boys' and Girls' Cross Country competed this past week in Newtown and ran very well.  Top finishers for ND were Jeremy Tierney '18 and Lucy Grant '18.
Lancer Football Scholarship Golf Outing in Memory of Jerry McCloat 
The Notre Dame Fairfield Lancer Football Scholarship Golf Outing in memory of Jerry McCloat will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at The Connecticut Golf Club in Easton.  All proceeds will directly benefit the Notre Dame Lancer Football program.  For more information please log on to
