Congratulations to...
Congratulations to Andrew Fallon '17 who has been named a Commended Student in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended Students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2017 competition by taking the 2015 PSAT.

ND Happenings
Students Stroll for Strength for the Norma Pfiefer Breast Care Center
On Thursday  night, members of Campus Ministry participated in the Stroll for Strength for the Norma Pfiefer Breast Care Center in Fairfield. Participants included Margaux Atkins '18, Olivia Ceballos '18, and Daniella Masciola '18. 

Freshman Class Retreat
On Thursday , Campus Ministry sponsored the annual Freshman Class Retreat.  Freshmen had mass with Father Luke, snacks, participated in small groups and Adoration, made bagged lunches for Operation Hope and the Thomas Merton Center, made Halloween Cards for an area nursing home, watched movie clips, and grew in fellowship.  

Special thanks to the upperclassmen who served on the retreat team.  Sophomore class leaders were Grace Kuntz, Linda Pham, Katelyn Pond, Manjot Singh, Kevin Morataya, and Justin LaSella.  Juniors: Sierrra O'Keefe, Bobby Karosy, Erin O'Brien, Zuquila Mbachiantim, Deven Pierre, Jacob Rainey, Jalyssa Howell, Milli Polanco, and Alexis Johnson.  Seniors: Sam Lavalle, Brianna Kydes, Colin Burke, Safeen Ahman, Andrew Fallon, Liv Keden, Jenny Goldstein, Audrey D'Amico, Brandon Cegelka, Megan Peterlin, Anthony Mongillo, Kayla Bryant, Celine Samrin, Delaney O'Keefe, and Kim Valdovinos. Special thanks to Mr. St. Onge for delivering the lunches and help with skits.

Algebra Students Hard at Work
After taking measurements of each other , Ms. Longo's Algebra 1 honors class created scatterplots and determined whether or not their relations were functions. 

Ms. Longo's Algebra 2 honors classes learned about parabolas and their formulas and participated in an Angry Bird activity. 

Students Kick off Catholic Service Corps
On Saturday, September  24, ND students joined with other schools and parishes in the Diocese of Bridgeport for the inaugural meeting of the Catholic Service Corps.  Students started at ND with prayer and a breakfast and then joined St. Joseph's High School at The Thomas Merton Center where students painted, sorted toiletries, and served lunch. Thanks to Ms. Medoff and Miss Zembrzuski for helping to chaperone.  Participants included Jenny Goldstein '17, Delaney O'Keefe '17, Grace Gallagher '17, Liv Keden '17, Emma Seeney '18, Deven Pierre '18, Sierra O'Keefe '18, and Chridel Turtillien '18.

Huge Grandparent Mass Turnout

On Friday, September 23, nearly 100 grandparents joined their ND grandchild for mass at the annual Grandparents Mass and Reception. Special thanks to Fr. Luke for celebrating mass and to ND parents Jen Manzo and Michelle McGuire for their help in organizing the event. Thanks go out to all the parents who helped at the event and sent in baked good for the reception!
Students Paint Pumpkins for  Norma Pfriem Breast Center
On Tuesday , members of Campus Ministry painted pink pumpkins for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center to be sold at their kickoff event  Thursday  night in Fairfield. Participants included  Michael Giangregorio '19, Olivia Ceballos '18, Mary Keden '19, Megan Burke '19, Aliyah Louis '18, Gabrielle Joseph '18, Diana Pires '17, and Brittany Fulton '18.  

ND Dance Club
The ND Dance club recent held their first meeting of the school year. The club meets every other Thursday  in the Cafeteria and  welcomes students with all levels of dance. See Mrs. Hong with any questions.

Upcoming Events in Campus Ministry

Campus Ministry is sponsoring two drives: 
1) Old Halloween Costumes to donate by  November 2nd 
2 ) A non-perishable food, toiletry,and gift card drive for the Little Sisters of the Poor in Enfield that will end on  October 14th .  Please bring your donations to your religion teacher or 201A.  

Think Pink Locker Decorating Contest 
Campus Ministry is sponsoring a "Think Pink" locker decorating contest for students and door contest for teachers to benefit the Norma Pfiefer Breast Cancer Foundation.  Doors and lockers need to be decorated by Friday, October 7 to be eligible for prizes.  Please bring your entry donation to Miss Medoff in 201A.

Wear Pink On Monday
A $3 charity dress down day is being held on Monday, October 3rd for Go4theGoal Pediatric Cancer Charity and the Norma Pfifer Breast Cancer Foundation.  Please wear pink.

Trunk or Treat Volunteers Needed
Campus Ministry is hosting the 3rd annual Trunk or Treat on Wednesday October 26 from 3-5 pm in the faculty parking lot.  We are looking for volunteers to run games and decorate cars to give out candy.  We could also use donations of decorations, candy, or snacks.  If you have a young child who would like to attend and participate, they are also welcome.  Please email Jess Medoff at with the number of children participating or with any questions.
Mite Box Collection
This week's mite box collection raised over $250 for the Danni Kemp Medical Fund.  The winning homeroom was Ms. Miller's and those students will have a dress down day next week.  The next mite box will be  Wednesday October 12th  for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
Love Life
The next Love Life meeting will be held on  Thursday, October 20 in 201A at  2:00 pm.  Love Life will be sponsoring a movie afternoon showing of Hocus Pocus along with snacks.
Drama Club To Sponsor Paint and Sip for Parents
On  Saturday, October 15 at 6:00 pm, the Drama Club will be sponsoring a Paint and Sip event faciliated by ND's own art teacher, Meghan Balliett.  This relaxing and fun evening will take place in the ND art room, and the event will give participants a chance to enjoy creating art in the 'spirit' of the ND family.  Tickets are $35 and seating is limited.  Please contact Mr. St.Onge for more information at

College Essay Workshop - October 19th
Members of the English Department will be available to help seniors with their college essays on  October 19th  (Freshman, Sophomore and Junior Guidance Testing Day). Students will be able to get help wherever they are in the process.  There will be workshop rooms for brainstorming/selecting a topic, revision/feedback, and editing.  A sign up sheet will be in room 207.

Fall Flower Sale - October 1
We still have beautiful, oversized 8" and 16", hardy mums available as well as pumpkins for sale! All proceeds from this fundraiser will help support the purchase of mobile charging stations for our students to use.  Buy your flowers in our parking lot on Saturday, October 1, from 8:00am - 4:00pm.  

Redeemable Drive - October 1
Start saving your bottles and cans and bring them to ND on Saturday, October 1 from 8:00am - Noon.  This NEW fundraiser is an easy way to support ND - tell your friends and neighbors!  We need 5 student volunteers to help - please email  to sign up.
Walk A Thon - October 21
The Wall-a-thon will take place on  Friday, October 21 .  There will be food and drinks for the students to purchase and we will be looking for volunteers to donate water, food and your time!  Details will follow in upcoming ND Updates.
Homecoming Game and Food Truck Festival - October 22
Join us for the 2nd Annual Food Truck Festival and Homecoming Game! The ND Cheerleading Team will also be hosting a clothing drive as well - see attached for details! Bring your family and friends!

The ND Baking Committee is back! If you like to bake, please consider joining to help with various school events throughout the year. Guidance Department Update
College Rep Visits
Visits from college representatives have begun. Seniors should look on Naviance for the full schedule. Seniors must sign up on Naviance to visit with a college representative. Once signed up, please stop by the Guidance Office at least two days prior to get a pass for that day. No student will be allowed to leave homeroom without a pass.  All visits will be at 8:00 a.m. in Room 205.

Upcoming PSAT Testing
On Wednesday, October 19, the freshmen, sophomores and juniors will be taking the PSAT.  This is a practice test for the SAT's.  If you have any questions please feel free to contact the Guidance Office/Mrs. Lisa Seperack at (203) 374-2618.
2016 Congressional App Challenge
The 2016 Congressional App Challenge is now open. Apps must be submitted before the deadline on November 2nd at 12:00 pm.

High School students are eligible to participate in the challenge. Students can sign up as individuals or in a team of up to four. All apps will be presented before a panel of judges for consideration. Winners will be honored by their Member of Congress and have their apps featured on a display in the Capitol Building, as well as on the  Congressional App Challenge website !
Submission Process:
  • Register on CongressionalAppChallenge.US and complete entry form
  • Create your App, you can use the resources provided below for assistance
  • Submit demonstration video of app, no longer than three minutes, in which participant describes what the app does, what the intended audience is, what tools were used to create it, and how it works

Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting
The Palace in Stamford is pleased to announce the third annual Young Artist Scholarship Awards for Playwriting. The 2017 scholarships will be awarded to three high school students for their writing of an original 15 minute, one act play. The three winning plays will be have a stage reading of their play at the Palace with professional New York actors. The students' will assist in directing their play during rehearsals the day of the reading. Criteria and an application can be obtained by clicking here. The deadline for submission is

Athletics Update
Lancer Week In Review
The football team will look to get back on the winning track after their loss to Masuk last Saturday.  The team will be in action  on Saturday (10/1) vs. New Fairfield at  3:00 pm at ND.  Both ND and New Fairfield have records of 1-2. Come out and support the team!

Girls' Soccer went 1-0-1 this past week with a win over Stratford and a tie with Bethel.  The girls defeated Stratford 7-0.  Lindsay Salvati '18 had 3 goals and Samantha LaValle '17 added two in the game.  Samantha Camacho '18 completed the shutout in the win.  The girls' record overall is 4-0-3 and the team is currently 4th in the SWC and have been ranked #1 in the Class M/S rankings by  Girls are in action  on Friday (9/30) away vs. New Fairfield.

Boys' Soccer went 1-1 this past week with the win over Stratford and a tough loss to Bethel.  Carlos Alfaro '19 and Pedro Oliviera '17 had goals in the Stratford and Bethel games respectively.  Marcelo DeSouza '19 made 4 saves in each of the two games.  Boys are in action on Saturday (10/1) away vs. Norwich Free Academy ( 4pm).  The boys' overall record now stands at 4-1-1 and they are currently 2nd in the SWC.

Girls' Volleyball went 1-2 this past week with a win over Kolbe Cathedral but losses to New Milford and Masuk. In the win vs. Kolbe, Zuquila Mbachiantim '18 led the team with 7 aces, Liv Silva '17 and Gabby Joseph '18 each led the team with 11 and 7 kills respectively.  Shelby Nolan '17 had 9 digs in the win.  The volleyball team's record stands at 5-4.  The girls are in action again  on Friday (9/30) away vs. New Fairfield ( 4pm/5:30pm).

Boys' and Girls' Cross Country competed this past week at Roosevelt Forest in Stratford vs. Bunnell and Kolbe Cathedral.  Top finishers for ND were Jacob Rainey '18 and Teresa Salamone '17.
Sports Sign Ups 
Sign ups for all students interested in Boys' Basketball, Girls' Basketball, Wrestling, Boys' and Girls' Indoor Track, and Bowling will begin on Monday, October 3 in Mr. Bleggi's office (Room 201).  Sign ups will end on Friday, October 21.  Any questions, see Mr. Bleggi.
Lancer Football Scholarship Golf Outing in Memory of Jerry McCloat 
The Notre Dame Fairfield Lancer Football Scholarship Golf Outing in memory of Jerry McCloat will take place on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at The Connecticut Golf Club in Easton.  All proceeds will directly benefit the Notre Dame Lancer Football program.  For more information please log on to
