U.S. Drought Monitor

During the week of August 23-29 the precipitation was above normal for some of the country's midsection. Rainfall deficits at 30-days stretch across a wide area from central Illinois, Indiana and Ohio.  Temperatures were as much as 6-8 degrees F below normal for this period. Drought was expanded throughout the state of Montana. One category of improvements were made in eastern South Dakota where 1-2 inches of rain fell during the last two weeks.

Looking ahead, Hurricane Harvey will drift towards the Ohio Valley. Dryness is also expected to continue in the Midwest.
