U.S. Drought Monitor

A weather pattern change brought badly-needed showers across the eastern half of the Nation. East-central Illinois, and most of central Indiana recorded 3-6 inches of rain, while most of the remainder of the region saw 1-3 inches of rain. 

Looking ahead, Tropical Storm Cindy is growing northeast into Virginia. While little or no precipitation is expected in the northern Plains. Only light amounts are predicted in the western Corn Belt.

Indiana  | 2% of corn has silk  | 46% is in good to excellent condition

Minnesota  | 78% is in good to excellent condition

North Dakota  | 56% is in good to excellent condition

South Dakota  |  46% is in good to excellent condition

Ohio  | 1% of corn has silk | 58% is in good to excellent condition
 

Soybeans:
Illinois  | 7% of soybeans have bloomed compared to 1% last year | 70% is in good to excellent condition

Indiana  | 2% of soybeans have bloomed  | 51% is in good to excellent condition

Minnesota  | 1% of soybeans have bloomed  | 76% is in good to excellent condition

North Dakota | 1% of soybeans have bloomed  | 53% is in good to excellent condition

South Dakota | 6% of soybeans have bloomed compared to 0% in 2016  | 39% is in good to excellent condition

Ohio  | 1% of soybeans have bloomed  | 60% is in good to excellent condition

 
Winter Wheat:
Illinois  |  78% of winter wheat has been harvested  | 64% of it is in good to excellent condition

Indiana  |  35% of winter wheat has been harvested compared to 23% last year | 71% is in good to excellent condition

Ohio  |  10% of winter wheat has been harvested | 82% is in good to excellent condition

Barley

Lansing Trade Group to Acquire Interstate Commodities, Inc. Agricultural Trading Business

The two companies announced on June 21st that they have entered into an agreement in principal for Lansing to acquire materially all the grain and feed ingredient trading businesses and associated assets of Interstate. 

"Interstate's trading business has a long-standing and well respected reputation in the agriculture markets," says Bill Krueger, President and CEO of Lansing Trade Group. 

Both Lansing and Interstate Commodities expect their customers to continue to see a hgih level of customer service from the combined businesses. 


 
Wheat Harvest Kicking Off for 2017

Southern Ohio started their harvest last week, which is roughly a week ahead of schedule.

Scott Metzger, a Pickaway County farmer, started mid-week. "Our goal is to be done cutting wheat and finish planting double-crop beans on the same day - by July 1," said Metzger. 

The early start is important this year (and increasingly important in general) to maximize chances of meeting increasing quality standards from many end-users of wheat.
