U.S. Drought Monitor

Pockets of significant rain spread into the Midwest from Minnesota to Missouri.While some areas saw trimming of dryness and drought, several other areas saw further drought expansion. The western Dakotas did see heavy rain fail that helped improve drought conditions. 

The next couple days heavy rain stretching from the upper Midwest to the southern High Plains is expected. Five-day rainfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches. From September 26 - 30 the NWS calls for below- normal  temperatures across the Plains.

Corn:
Illinois   | 11% of corn has been harvested compared to 22% in 2016 |  52% is in good to excellent condition

Indiana  | 10% of corn has been harvested compared to 14% last year  |  53% is in good to excellent condition

Minnesota  |  1 % of corn has been harvested compared to 3% last year  |  81% is in good to excellent condition

North Dakota  | 1% of corn has been harvested compared to 3% in 2016  |  53% is in good to excellent condition

South Dakota |  1 % of corn has been harvested compared to 6% in 2016  |  40% is in good to excellent condition

Ohio   |  3 % of corn has been harvested compared to 7% in 2016  |   62% is in good to excellent condition
 

Soybeans:
Illinois   |  9% of soybeans have been harvested compared to 5% in 2016 |  56% is in good to excellent condition

Indiana   | 10% of soybeans have been harvested compared to 8% in 2016 |  53% is in good to excellent condition

Minnesota   | 7% of soybeans have been harvested compared to 11% in last year |  71% is in good to excellent condition

North Dakota  |  9% of soybeans have been harvested compared to 11% in 2016 | 52% is in good to excellent condition

South Dakota  |  4% of soybeans have been harvested compared to 10% in last year | 49% is in good to excellent condition

Warm Conditions Help Major Minnesota Crops Mature
Minnesota's corn and soybean crops matured rapidly after warm conditions were seen throughout the state. 

The U.S. Department of Agriculture said in its weekly crop progress report that the condition for Minnesota's corn is still maturing about 10 days behind the average pace. 

Soybean harvest is already taking place in areas of northern Minnesota where the crop condition is rated at 72 percent in good to excellent condition.
