Commerce Department Changes Definition of Export
Changes to the Department of Commerce's definition of an "export" were finalized this past fall and published in the Bureau of Industry and Security's Export Administration Regulations (EAR). The revisions were completed in order to further harmonize the EAR with the Department of State's International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). There were several takeaways from these revisions that may apply to North Dakota companies and institutions, and are overviewed as follows.
The North Dakota Trade Office is excited to announce a Peru-North Dakota 'Better for You Food Ingredients' Conference & Exhibition to take place April 24-27, 2017. This conference and exhibition will introduce Peruvian buyers, research and development specialists, and food manufacturers to North Dakota specialty crops such as beans, peas, lentils, and chickpeas. North Dakota companies participating in this mission are eligible to receive Specialty Crop Program funding.
With the New Year upon us, we'd like to remind North Dakota's exporter community to apply for the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) to fund your company's travels in 2017. In October 2016, NDTO was awarded $231,045 to continue North Dakota's success in expanding international exports. Eleven North Dakota small and medium-sized businesses have already been approved to receive STEP funding for international sales trips.
Don't miss out! The NDTO is accepting STEP applications for trips through September 2017 or until funds are disbursed. For more information, click here.
