Rep. Jason Chaffetz (UT-03), Tuesday, December 1, 2015

This coming Tuesday, December 1, 2015 at 12:00 PM ET, Congressman Jason Chaffetz (UT-03) will be joining us on our weekly National Emergency Coalition (NEC) conference call to talk about efforts in Congress to forestall an immigration crisis in the US like the one unfolding in Europe as tens of thousands refugees flood into Europe from the Middle East. The administration remains intractable in its defiance of the will of the American people who by a 64 to 36 percent margin want to halt Syrian refugee resettlement in the US, or accept only Christians.

Rep. Chaffetz Chairs the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and also serves on the House Judiciary Committee and two of its subcommittees: Crime, Terrorism, Homeland Security, and Investigations, and Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet.

About Jason Chaffetz
Jason Chaffetz became the Chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee in January 2015.  He is currently serving his fourth term in the US House of Representatives. In the 114th Congress, he also serves on the House Judiciary Committee.

Jason and Julie Chaffetz have been married since 1991 and have 3 children.  After finishing the 1988-89 football season as Brigham Young University's starting placekicker, he graduated with a B.A. in Communications. He spent 16 years in the local business community, where he specialized in corporate communications work and ultimately owned his own communications firm. Prior to running for Congress, he served as campaign manager and chief of staff to former Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. from 2003 to 2005.

The values Rep. Chaffetz embraces are reflected in the issues he has prioritized during the course of his service. He ran for office on the promise of returning to the core conservative principles of accountability, strong national defense, limited government and fiscal discipline.

Accountability has been a hallmark of his work. Prior to being named Chairman of the Oversight Committee, he played a prominent role in numerous substantive investigations, including the Benghazi terrorist attack, the Fast & Furious gun running operation, the IRS targeting scandal and the Secret Service investigation.  He is deeply engaged in exposing waste, fraud and abuse within the federal government.

Foreign policy and national security are a key focus of his work on both the Oversight and previously on the Homeland Security Committee. He has made numerous trips overseas to investigate issues ranging from embassy overspending to foreign aid waste.  His trip to Libya in the weeks following the September 11, 2012 attack became the impetus for a broader investigation and the appointment of a Select Committee.

Rep. Chaffetz believes strongly in a constitutionally limited federal government. The federal government owns and manages nearly 70% of the land in Utah. During his tenure in the House, Rep. Chaffetz has served on the most important committee for rural western communities, the House Natural Resources Committee, and continues to be a prominent member of the Congressional Western Caucus.  He supports federal land management policies based on multiple-use and sustained yield and believes that state manage- ment and local control are the best long-term solutions for the land and rural communities.

Rep. Chaffetz has been a tireless advocate of fiscal discipline, voting consistently to cut spending, eliminate earmarks, reduce duplication and retire outdated federal programs.

LEGAL DISCLAIMER REGARDING NONPROFIT AFFILIATIONS

Please be advised that the National Emergency Coalition (NEC) is not a formal organization, but a Coalition of individual leaders. It is convened by STAND (Staying True to America's National Destiny). The weekly conference calls held under the NEC banner are primarily for purposes of information and political strategizing on the advancement of certain principles and not the endorsement of or opposition to particular candidates. However, at times there are discussions which involve lobbying, recom-mendations for political and electoral activity and expressions of support for or opposition to particular elected officials based on their policies. Individual participants have full latitude to lobby on any policy or to endorse or oppose any candidate or elected official. However, nonprofit organizations are circumscribed by the Internal Revenue Code and related rules and regulations regarding activity of organizations tax exempt under IRC Sections 501(c)(3) and (c)(4). NEC is a coalition of individuals only. Listing organizational affiliations on NEC notices is strictly for purposes of identifying individuals and in no way implies - nor does NEC require or accept - the participation of any nonprofit organization in political activity or contributions in violation of any IRS rules. The general rule is that nonprofit organizations may not endorse or oppose candidates and may not engage in a "substantial" amount of lobbying or political activity. Nonprofit organizations should consult with an attorney or accountant for specifics to assure compliance.
