New England Innovates: Preparing the Innovation Economy Workforce
New Date: April 27, 2017
The second event in The New England Council's "New England Innovates" series has been rescheduled for Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Boston.  "New England Innovates: Preparing the Innovation Economy Workforce" will explore the critical role that our region's institutions of higher education play in preparing the next generation innovation economy workforce.  Andrea Cox of GE Aviation will deliver opening remarks, highlighting the needs of the region's innovation economy employers and the importance of partnerships between employers and the higher education community.  Following Cox's remarks, a panel of leaders representing NEC member colleges and universities will discuss the importance of collaboration between colleges and universities and the business community to best develop the region's talent pipeline. Cybersecurity Symposium
NEC Co-Sponsoring Travelers Institute Cybersecurity Symposium
The New England Council is proud to co-sponsor an upcoming Cybersecurity Symposium presented by   Travelers Institute, the public policy division of NEC member   Travelers InsuranceCyber: Prepare, Prevent, Mitigate, Restore is an educational symposium aimed at helping businesses and organizations tackle evolving cyber threats. The symposium will take place on Friday, April 21, 2017, from 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, which is also co-sponsoring the event.

As part of a national series, thought leaders from the public and private sectors will share insights into the current threat landscape and strategies your organization can use to help prepare for and respond to a cyber incident.  Presenters include Robert H. Nelson, District Director with the U.S. Small Business Administration, Don Anderson, Senior Vice President & Chief Information Officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Joan Woodward, President of Travelers Institute, FBI Special Agent Michael Tunick with the Boston Field Office's Cyber Squad, Jeffrey Klenk, Executive Vice President, Management Liability at Travelers, and John Bruce of IBM.  Click here to view the full agenda.

DC Dialogue on NECN
March: GOP Healthcare Plan; NE Energy Landscape
The most recent episode of DC Dialogue on NECN aired on Sunday, March 19, 2017. In the first segment, Jim Brett and Eileen Curran were joined by Jess Tocco, President of A10 Associates and the only Massachusetts member of the Trump Transition teams for healthcare and small business.  Jess shared her insights on the Republican plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and the path forward for the controversial legislation. Later in the show, we were joined by Dan Dolan, President of the New England Power Generators Association, for an overview of the energy landscape in New England, including energy costs, reliability, and new generation capabilities in the region.

Our first guest will be Congressman Stephen Lynch, who will update us on some of the recent issues before Congress and share his thoughts on the first several months of the Trump Administration.  Later in the show, we'll be joined by  Jim Hunt, President and CEO of the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, for a discussion of the efforts to repeal the Affordable Care act and the ramifications for our region's community health centers. Policy Committee Updates
Energy & Environment Committee: Meeting April 10
The NEC Energy & Environment Committee will meet on Monday, April 10, 2017, from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at WilmerHale in Boston.  The purpose of the meeting will be to di scuss the varying proposals to address Integrating Markets and Public Policy Process (IMAPP).  Click here to RSVP, or contact David O'Donnell for more information.
Financial Services Committee: Meetings with Reps. Poliquin, Capuano
The NEC Financial Services Committee will meet with several members of the House Financial Services Committee in April, including Rep. Bruce Poliquin (R-ME) on April 7, 2017, and Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA) on April 10, 2017.  The meetings will take place immediately following Council-wide Congressional Roundtables with the Congressmen. Contact Chris Averill for more information.
Healthcare Committee Meets to Discuss ACA Repeal
The NEC Healthcare Committee met on March 24, 2017, at Blue Cross Blue Shield in Boston.  At the meeting, members heard from Jess Tocco, President of A10 Associates and the only Massachusetts member of President Trump's transition team for healthcare and small business, and also discussed priorities for any new healthcare proposal to replace the Affordable Care Act.  Contact David O'Donnell for more information.
Technology Committee Briefing on GOP Innovation Agenda
Members of the NEC Technology Committee participated in a conference call with a senior staff member to Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), who briefed them on the Senate Republican High Tech Task Force's Innovation Agenda for the 115th Congress.  Chris Bates, Senior Counsel to Sen. Hatch, who chairs the task force, provided an overview of some of the key elements of the agenda, including proposals related to high-skilled immigration, STEM education, intellectual property, data security, and cybersecurity, and answered members questions about the agenda.  Contact Emily Heisig or Taylor Pichette for more information.
