Re-Introducing...Interest Groups

Interest Groups have always offered NEFLIN members outstanding networking, informational, and problem solving opportunities.  This year we have added NEW groups and NEW facilitators - a perfect forum for YOU to connect with your colleagues around the region.

All NEW for 2017!
These groups have been re-evaluated and re-imagined. NEFLIN is proud to re-introduce our Interest Groups!

The 2017 class of NEFLIN's Management Training Institute (MTI) had their first session on January 10th.  The twenty members that were accepted will be coming monthly to the NEFLIN office through August to work with Michael Clark.

Here is a list of those accepted for congratulating!

I'm the Very Definition of Fatigued

Brad here.  Do you have a minute?  I'm tired of some things.  To be specific, I'm fatigued.

I know that I just returned from time off at the holidays and should have "recharged my batteries". However, after suffering election coverage fatigue, top ten lists of 2016 fatigue, holiday shopping fatigue, and the worst as
Company X,  Y _ _ _ _ ! and Z's cyber security dept was  asleep at the wheel and I now have to verify my account, change my password, check on fraud...you know the drill.

If you're with me, let's channel our fatigue into action!

Do something positive and take the NEFLIN Annual Survey.
Once a year (hence the "annual") we survey our members to assist us in improving our services. Help us, help you.
Take this survey, and consider passing it on to a colleague.
You will feel less fatigued by doing some good.

Save the Date: Tech Events

The New Year brings exciting new tech trends to look forward to in 2017!

Save the date!  NEFLIN is delighted to announce the date of our upcoming Technology Conference.  It will take place on June 2, 2017 at the Renaissance World Golf Village Resort & Conference Center in St. Augustine.

We are also partnering with our friends at TBLC to bring you the ever-popular Library MakerFest, a day-long exhibit of all things maker.  Join library colleagues and vendors to learn more about makerspaces and new maker projects in libraries. This event will take place at the Strawberry Festival Fairgrounds in Plant City on May 18th.  Registration is open now.

So mark your calendars!  Attending these events is  excellent (and easy!) Tech Resolutions you can make for yourself and your libraries in 2017!

Member Spotlight: City College

City College - Gainesville Campus

Gainesville is a college town, the kind of place where the guy working the drive-thru has two advanced degrees. A high school diploma does not open many doors. But the competitive atmosphere at Gainesville's predominant educational institutions is not for everyone. City College is an alternative for students looking for a supported learning environment with the specific goal of future employment.

Offered programs include associate degrees in Medical
Assisting, Business Administration, Emergency Medical Technician, and Veterinary Technician, as well as a bachelor's degree in Business.

The library is enclosed in glass on two sides, allowing the creation of a separate space that is very connected to the energy and bustle of the campus. The main room wraps around a smaller computer area, known to students as the Fishbowl, where much of the tutoring and individual
instruction occurs. The work day includes a little bit of everything, such as collection development, database instruction, and help with term paper research. It's particularly satisfying to work with adults with widely varied experiences, and see them develop life-changing skills.
