NEFLIN Receives State Funding

After last year's surprise veto of state funding by Governor Scott, we are pleased to announce that NEFLIN will receive state funding in 2013-14! To add more good news, funding for both the Multitype Library Cooperatives and State Aid for Public Libraries increased (MLCs from $1 million to $1.5 million and State Aid from $21.3 million to $22.3 Million).

Thanks go to Secretary of State Ken Detzner who included requests to fund MLCs and public libraries in his Department of State budget for 2013-14. We also appreciate that Governor Rick Scott included funding for MLCs and public libraries in both his proposed budget and in the final budget signed in May. Finally, we would be remiss if we didn't mention the usual stellar work provided by our MLC lobbyist, Dale Patchett.

NEFLIN Awards: Deadline Extended

We have extended the deadline for nominations to June 28. We would like to recognize the accomplishments of members by presenting a number of awards at the 20th Anniversary Annual Meeting. The NEFLIN Board has added two new awards, bringing the total to four.

  • Distinguished Career Award (New)
  • Innovation Award
  • Library Champion Award

Detailed information and the online nomination forms are available at http://www.neflin.org/awards.

Reduce, Reuse, Upcycle!
Monday, July 22
9 am - 4 pm
NEFLIN in Orange Park

Register here.

This is a great hands-on workshop for teen and adult librarians who are eco-conscious and on a budget.

Upcycling is the art of recycling objects, by giving them a new purpose. You will learn to turn old books and magazines into artworks, t-shirts into book bags or aprons, cardboard tubes into seed starters and plastic bottles into an herb garden. Participants will be introduced to about 15 projects throughout the day. No art or craft experience needed, just the love of learning and reusing.

Please bring:
   1. Scissors
   2. Old t-shirt (to be cut up)
   3. Old dish (plate, cup, bowl...)
   4. Plastic water or milk jug - gallon or half gallon
