Hello Everyone!

We have a record-breaker in the house!  The title of "Best Opening Week" has belonged to GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL for almost three years...but LA LA LAND has swooped in and taken the crown!  Many, many thanks to everyone who has helped to make the last two weeks so successful for us.  Since December 25, between LA LA LAND and MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, we have had over 40 sold out shows.  That is incredible!  We will hold both films for another week! Showtimes for the upcoming weekend can be found below (please pay close attention to dates and times - we have a couple private events on Saturday and Sunday, so showtimes are not consistent for MANCHESTER over the course of the weekend). You can find out more about either film by clicking the images below and visiting each film's official site.

I still don't have a lot of details about our one special screening of  THE BEST WORST THING THAT EVER COULD HAVE HAPPENED on January 29...but it's looking like it will start at 6:00 that evening  (a real treat for you Sondheim fans). Stay tuned!  I hope to tie up all details in the next couple days.

"The Junior Leaguers Club of Dayton will sponsor its 6th annual fundraiser on Saturday, Feb. 18 at Noon.  The screening is a special presentation of the recently remastered classic DAUGHTERS OF THE DUST - a Julie Dash film.   The film is set in 1902 in the Gullah community.  The West Africans were brought there as enslaved people, so the islanders developed a language and culture creolized from West Africa.  This unique culture and language endured in the areas of the low country, such as the Carolinas and Georgia. The discussion will be moderated remotely by O, the lead actress from the film.  F unds from this event will provide a recurring scholarship to a graduating senior from the Miami Valley.  This year a silent auction will take place prior to the screening with items representing the culture.  The tickets are $30.00 for adults which include movie, soda, glass of wine, and popcorn.   The student tickets are $15.00 (excluding the wine).  Tickets may be purchased at THE NEON (beginning Jan. 9) or by calling (937)219-7501 for tickets." (taken from press notes)

"SURJ (Showing Up for Racial Justice) Greater Dayton is sponsoring a screening of CINCINNATI GODDAMN - a feature-length documentary about police brutality, anti-black racism, and the power of grassroots activism in Cincinnati, Ohio.  From 1995-2001 there were fifteen black men killed by the Cincinnati police.  The film focuses on two of those murders, Roger Owensby, Jr and Timothy Thomas.  Martin Luther King said that 'A riot is the cry of the unheard.'  Thomas's death sparked three days of civil unrest and protests.  This poignant and powerful story of injustice is told through news reports, first-person accounts and cinema verité footage of the surviving families' long-suffering battle for justice.  All proceeds will be donated to the local racial justice organization: Racial Justice Now! http://rjnohio.org/ .  Tickets, available for a minimum donation of $10, will be on sale at THE NEON starting January 9 and by contacting [email protected]." Wishing you a Happy & Healthy New Year!

We hope to see you soon,
Jonathan
