Recovery Services Giving Back to Community
September was a busy month for NET's Addiction Recovery Services! Staff and Persons in Recovery from Adult Intensive Outpatient/Outpatient (IOP/OP) participated in a School Supply Drive for community service. In all, they donated 8 full boxes of school supplies to our two CUAs! Clients and staff a ttended a Phillies game and the Peer Specialists staff organized the a nnual picnic for clients and families at Wakeling Park. The event included food, music, games and prizes - all free to clients, alumni and their families.

NET joined thousands of other participants in Philadelphia's PRO-ACT Recovery Walk on September 17th.  Addiction Services had a total of 527 registered walkers including clients, staff and their families from IOP, Kirkwood, Wharton and NET Steps!! We also had a resource table at the event to distribute NET literature.
Our clients in West Philly also organized and participated in a Community Clean Up event during September. Consumer Council members proudly wore their NET t-shirts as they worked to make the streets around our 55th and Chestnut clinic site safer and cleaner. Thank you!
On November 19th, members of Adult Services and NET Steps attended and participated in "A Regional Response to the Opioid Crisis" at Temple University (photos below).  This community-oriented symposium raised awareness around the opioid epidemic, provided support for people facing addiction personally or in their families, let the community know what law enforcement is doing to stop the flow of heroin and prescription painkillers, and provided resources from treatment providers.

NET had resource tables with information on our NET Steps program, IOP program and Suboxone program.  Staff present at the tables included; Tom Qualters (NET Steps), Dina Pollack (NET Steps), Kelly Dales (NET Steps), Maureen Campbell (NET Steps), Sabrina Goodyear (IOP/Suboxone), Gary Frankowski (IOP/Suboxone), John Rocco (IOP/Suboxone), Angelo Colon (IOP/Suboxone), Susan Hamlin-Smith (IOP/Suboxone), and Andrea Thomas (IOP/Suboxone).  Thank you for coming together to represent NET at this important community event.
NET Receives Community Behavioral Health Center Certification
We are excited to announce that NET received its Certified Community Behavioral Health Center (CCBHC) Certification in October.  As we have shared  over the last few months, NET was chosen by the PA Department  of Human Services as one of 16 Pennsylvania providers to participate in Pennsylvania's CCBHC planning grant. This federal initiative will encourage states to adopt innovative approaches to community-based behavioral health services aimed at 1) integrating behavioral health with physical health care; 2) increasing consistent use of evidence-based practices; and 3) improving access to high quality care.
The certification is an opportunity to bring more resources to NET, expand and coordinate support systems and challenge staff to elevate the level of care and services to clients. NET will begin rolling out  orientation meetings and trainings for staff in the next few months as we prepare to begin operating as a CCBHC  center beginning in July 2017.

NET Teams with City Youth in Fall Classic Basketball Game
A big thanks to Adam Serlin (left in photo below), NET's Director of Court Services, for representing NET and helping to organize the city's 3rd annual Fall Classic All Star Game to kick off Juvenile Justice Week in October.
Hundreds of community members packed the MLK Recreation Center to watch the exhibition game featuring youth from the Philadelphia Providers' League playing against an all-star team of juvenile probation officers.  Tables were set up to provide attendees with information about different services and programs available to teens. Among those represented in addition to NET were the Defender Association of Philadelphia, the Police Athletic League, and the Philadelphia Technician Training Institute. The event is an opportunity to bring together probation officers with youth in the juvenile justice system in an informal way that shows young people the community wants to work together to support them and better their situation.
