    Mindy Reinstein recently joined the Jewish Federations of North America as Director of Government Affairs in their Washington office. She will also serve as Washington Representative to NJHSA. Prior to this role, Mindy was the Deputy Director of
    Government Relations, Advocacy and Community Engagement at the Anti-Defamation League, where she led the League's advocacy on a variety of international, immigration and civil rights issues since 2012. A proud Floridian, she previously served as Legislative Counsel to U.S. Congressman Alcee Hastings (FL-20) and is a member of the Florida Bar Association and an alumna of the University of Miami School of Law. Mindy graduated from Emory University with a degree in International Studies with a focus on the Middle East and Africa.
    The Blue Card has joined The Network! The Blue Card is the only national organization in the United States whose sole mission is to help needy Holocaust survivors. Since its inception, in 1934, The Blue Card has provided financial resources that improve the daily lives of needy Shoah victims, learning to a more secure future.  Learn more about The Blue Card here 
    NJHSA has partnered with  GrantStation  to provide your agency with complimentary access to the GrantStation Insider, a weekly newsletter featuring 12 unique funding opportunities including  the latest national and regional grant opportunities, as well as upcoming federal deadlines.  GrantStation Insider  is published every Thursday.     NJHSA has secured a 10% discount for member agencies on Relias Academy's continuing education courses. Relias Academy provides access to a catalog of over 1,500 courses tailored specifically for the senior care, health and human services, and 
    intellectual  and developmental disabilities industries. NJHSA members can email Karen for the checkout code  to receive a 10% discount.  Courses can be found through a specific search, by profession, and even by specific license.     NJHSA was recently awarded the third installment of a 3-year grant from the Joseph and Rebecca Meyerhoff Awards Committee of the Joseph and Harvey Meyerhoff Family Charitable Funds of  Baltimore to form the NJHSA Meyerhoff Early Career Professionals Fellowship. This year NJHSA identified 11 early career professionals employed from throughout NJHSA member agencies who have exhibited strong leadership potential and will benefit from professional development.   • The Nonprofit Quarterly recently published and article, Nonprofits Will Care for an Aging America, but Under What Workforce Conditions? which speaks to the work of our Network. "By 2050, the number of Americans ages 65 or older will nearly double, growing from about 48 million to 88 million.Those who need the most assistance, the population of people over 85, is on track to triple, from 6.2 million to nearly over 18 million over the same time period. Many of these older Americans, along with younger adults with disabilities, need long-term services and supports." Read the remainder of the article here.

  • VISTA SPOTLIGHT - Leora Spitzer, VISTA at 
    Jewish Family & Children's Services of St. Louis  is working to  provide valuable services for older adults in the community, including a subsidized homemaker program to help with basic needs around the house such as cooking or doing laundry, chaplaincy visits to provide spiritual support to people unable to travel to synagogue anymore, and Elderlink, their phone line that helps connect seniors to care providers in the community.   • STAFF SPOTLIGHT - Jennifer Morrissey is Jewish Vocational Services of Boston's Human Resources Recruiter. As JVS expands the scope of its programming through a new Pay for Success initiative, Jen has been working to recruit many new employees to join the JVS team. Her favorite part of her job is looking at a person's unique skill set and matching each applicant to the most appropriate role. Learn more about Jen here.
  • Jewish Family Service of Colorado installed new board members, Jonathan Alpert, Michael S. Asarch, and Lorez Meinhold, at its "Celebrate JFS" event on June 26th. Charlie Gwirtsman was inducted as chair of the JFS Board, beginning a two-year term. Jane E. Rosenbaum completed her term as board chair, but remains on the Executive Committee.   • Jewish Family & Community Services of East Bay is currently resettling Afghan refugees who served as translators for U.S. troops in Afghanistan. Because of their cooperation with the United States military, former translators and their families are now being targeted by the Taliban and other fundamentalists.   • Jewish Community Services of South Florida announces Lambda Living House, Miami's first inter-generational LGBTQ focused residential program slated to launch on July 26th. Lambda Living House is comprised of 15-units and is designed to house seniors and young adults providing supportive services including independent living skills. Learn more here
  • After a thorough and lengthy interview process and unanimous vote, Jewish Family Service of Middlesex Board of Trustees is proud to announce Sam Nussbaum as its new CEO replacing Sara Levine who recently retired after a long successful tenure. NJHSA welcomes Sam to the Network. Sam is a trained social worker, with significant clinical, administrative and fundraising experience. He raised $2 million, along with the board, for Solomon Schechter Day School's new athletic center, as well as overseeing its construction. Learn more about Sam here.
