MARCH 12, 2014

Here are some great new items that are due to arrive here at TMC in late March: Duke Video's latest US format DVD releases and a new biography of one of the most talented and versatile American race driver of the 1960's and 1970's.

'Follmer: American Wheel Man' follows George Follmer's entire racing career, from Gymkana competition with a Volkswagen Beetle in parking lots to Formula One. George won the 1972 Can-Am championship driving a Porsche 917-10 for Roger Penske. He also won the 1972 Trans-Am championship becoming the only driver to ever win both championships in the same year. He would win the Trans-Am championship again in 1976 driving a Porsche 934. This and other drives in legendary Porsche's make him one of the most successful Porsche drivers ever.

George would drive in IndyCar, NASCAR, Can-Am, Trans-Am, Formula 5000, Formula One, LeMans, World Championship of Makes, IROC Series and numerous others in his incredible career.

The forewords are written by Roger Penske and Parnelli Jones, former car owner and team mate respectively. As Parnelli Jones states, "I think I can speak for many in the race car business when I say that George was highly underrated as a driver. I would put him in the category of being one hell of a race driver."

336 pages and over 280 photos are included, both Black & White and Color. Many two-page and one page photo spreads are throughout the book.

This month, Duke Video released 8 new DVD titles for the US market. Many of the films are from the Ford Heritage Collection, including one of the all-time classic racing documentaries; 'Nine Days in Summer', the definitive story of the development of the 3 litre Ford Cosworth DFV Grand Prix engine and it's early successes with Colin Chapman's Lotus 49 in the hands of Jim Clark and Graham Hill. Other Ford films include 'Lotus in the 60s' and 'Classic TV Commercials'. Each title is priced at $19.99.

It's good to see Duke increasing their US (NTSC) format offerings. We hope the trend continues.

Looking forward to escaping our never-ending winter here in Chicago for a few days, assuming we aren't still snowed in when our flight is scheduled to take off Thursday! Jeff Rutt will be your host this weekend while I'm spectating at the 12 Hours of Sebring n.

Talk to you next week, unless I decide not to come back!
