NEW WORK

Well there is nothing like the deadline of an exhibition to get motoring on new work and that is exactly what I did in preparation for the Knitting and Stitching Shows this Autumn. The first one at Alexandra Palace has now been and gone and what a great experience that turned out to be. Unfortunately a wasp sting the day before set up day, did present me with a few challenges and in the end I spent 3 hours in A an E, because of a severe allergic reaction. It did mean however that Ruth with husband Chas could get on with putting her exhibition up, making way for Martin and I, on our return, laden with antibiotics and anti-histamines, to put up my new works. So it all went well in the end and we were both pleased with our efforts.

To say we were busy would be an understatement and we were therefore so grateful for the many helping hands from family and friends. They were there welcoming in visitors, seeing to sales and bringing us cups of tea. I regret not finding more time to take more pictures of the show, so my apologies for not having many good shots to share with you.

I do so appreciate it when visitors come dressed, to fit in perfectly with one's work!!!

All of my new work uses bark cloth from Uganda and I am looking forward to scaling up some of these ideas. Here are a few samples from the exhibition.

It is Dublin next so do get in touch if you plan to be
there as we may need your help!!!

Ruth Issett.

Here are the dates for the two remaining shows in 2013:

LEARNING CURVE
I am not sure how the bookings are going for these workshops in Dublin and Harrogate, but both days were a sell out in London and I understand that all students left very happy, so please spread the word for me, so that these courses also fill. Here is a brief taster of what we will be doing.

QUICK AND EASY WAYS OF FILLING A SKETCHBOOK

Workshop Description

You will be given clear and accessible, step by step instructions of how to create effective and instant designs, working directly into a sketchbook using a variety of media. You will go away with your sketchbook full of ideas and a head buzzing with possibilities for personal interpretation. This makes this short course a must whether your interest is in drawing, designing or in any aspect of textiles. Suitable for the complete beginner through to experienced artists.

 STAR-CHILD SHOE CHALLENGE

Firstly my apologies to those of you that subscribe to both my textile and Ugandan newsletters, as you will be hearing this news in both newsletters.

THE STARCHILD SHOE CHALLENGE has taken on a new momentum, with a huge number of contributors now wishing to take part.

Can I now PLEASE urge all of you that have purchased some bark cloth for this challenge to get busy stitching. The project aims to raise funds and awareness for the charity 'Hands up for Uganda' .

These are the first two pairs of shoes and will be on display at the remaining two Knitting and Stitching Shows. These will not be wearable shows but ART SHOES, so don't hold back from being inventive. You do not have to make the shoes, just decorate the bark cloth or incorporate the bark cloth in with your working methods and why not include any 'over the top' wacky adornments.

Please click this link for further instructions.

The following 'processes' will give you some insight into how Janet and her workers at Star-Child Shoes make these shoes. This should help you in creating your piece of fabric.

FINALLY

If you have purchased a piece of bark cloth for this challenge can you please make sure that I do have you down on my list and that I have your email address so that I can keep you informed of how the project is progressing. THANK YOU
