(Ephraim, WI) - August 22, 2014 - The Hardy Gallery, a non-profit gallery in the historic district of Ephraim located on Anderson dock, announced today that its fall exhibit, "Unbound: Beyond the Boundaries of Traditional Fibers and Fabrics" will open the evening of August 29, 2014 and run through October 14, 2014. An opening reception will be held from 5:30 - 7 p.m. on August 29. The public is invited to attend this free event.
Unbound is an invitational exhibit that features a diverse selection of fiber work by local and regional artists. The premise for the exhibit lies in the book Beyond Craft: The Art Fabric Mainstream (1981), whose authors assert that there was craft in every art form, but the difference between the artist and craftsperson was this: the craftsman repeats and perfects what he/she already knows, but the artist takes risks and delves into unexplored territory.
This exhibit will explore this distinction from the traditional, functional and decorative to the contemporary, innovative and experimental. Specifically, this will be articulated through the display of an exceptional array of domestic textiles created by women for home and family. Patrons are encouraged to view and explore this exhibit that reveals the journey that has taken textiles from function in the home to fine art within a gallery.
"Unbound" will feature the works of 19 artists: Lorraine Brink, Fran Burton, Wendy Butler Berns, Wendy Carpenter, Kirsten Christianson, Bonnie Connolly, Rosalie Dittmann, Allison Gates, Susan Hoffmann, Diane Kirkland, Joan Mahoney, Cheryl Mahowald, Wence and Sandra Martinez, Robert Mertens, Jennifer Mokren, Lauren Sinner, Debbie Stellmacher, Jennifer Stultz and Mindy Sue Wittock.
The gallery will close for the 2014 season on Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
Admission to the gallery is FREE. The Hardy Gallery is open daily, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, 12 - 5 p.m. The gallery is located in the heart of Ephraim's historic district on Anderson Dock (3083 Anderson Lane). For more information, call 920-854-2210 or visit www.thehardy.org.
