Night at the Museum

Join us for a Night at the Museum and MYPN's 12th Birthday! On October 28th, the Manchester Historic Association and the Manchester Young Professionals Network will be joining together for this fun costume event held at the Millyard Museum. Guests can bid on silent auction prizes and meet costumed reenactors of Manchester's history. This year we will also be celebrating MYPN's 12th birthday! With food, live music, dancing, and adult beverages (this is a 21+ event), it is sure to be a fun evening. All proceeds from ticket sales will go to the MHA.

Manchester's historic Palace Theatre recently completed its centennial celebration. In celebrating its centennial, the Palace Theatre chose to commission the development of a publication to be able to tell the magnificent story of the Palace Theatre from its ambitious beginning up to the present. The story of the Palace is a rich one filled with stories of concerts, live theatre, magic, vaudeville, comedy, acrobats, and much, much more. In the telling of the wondrous evolution of this unique theatre one can't escape the comparisons to the very blood lines of live theatre in America. The Palace Theatre is the only live theatre left standing in Manchester where once there were many. Its ability to survive and now thrive will entertain and amuse those who dare to peek behind the curtain! Join Richard Hatin as he discusses the research and development of the Palace Theatre's Centennial Publication.

Now Accepting Historic Preservation Award Nominations

The Historic Preservation Committee is now accepting nominations for the 25th Annual Historic Preservation Awards.
The Historic Preservation Awards program recognizes and supports the efforts of individuals, businesses, and organizations who have made significant contributions to the preservation of buildings, neighborhoods, and other historic resources in the city.
If you are interested in nominating a person, organization or business for a Historic Preservation Award, please complete the HPA 2017 Nomination Form.
The 25th Annual Historic Preservation Awards will be held in May 2017

Now on Exhibit: It's Showtime!

In the Henry M. Fuller State Theatre Gallery in the Millyard Museum
Tuesday-Saturday, 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. - Included with museum admission
A special exhibit,
"It's Showtime: A History of Manchester's Theatres", is now on display at the Millyard Museum.
This exhibit showcases the Palace Theatre - which is beginning its second century as a cultural fixture in the city - as well as the many iconic theaters that live on in the memories of Manchester residents, such as the State, the Strand, the Lyric, the Modern, the Vitaphone, the Crown, the Rex, and so many others. Extraordinary photos from the MHA's own collection will be complemented by artifacts, posters, costumes, memorabilia and mementoes from the Vaudeville and Burlesque era right through to the city's many motion picture palaces.
This exhibit will be on display through December 17.

2016 Ornament: Elm Street
|
The MHA's 2016 collectible ornament has arrived! This year's finely-detailed ornament depicts Elm Street as it looked in the early 20th century with cobblestones, trolleys running down the road, and beautiful arched lights.
Each year the Manchester Historic Association produces an original, limited edition brass-plated ornament that celebrates Manchester's history. These unique, detailed ornaments are handcrafted in the United States by the same company that makes the annual White House Holiday Ornament. They make perfect Christmas tree decorations or gifts for the holidays and for many other occasions. Each comes in a decorative box.
These ornaments are available for $25.00 in the Millyard Museum Shop. The 2016 ornaments, as well as a limited number of ornaments from past years, can also be purchased online.

The Manchester Historic Association is an independent tax-exempt charitable 501(c)(3) educational nonprofit organization with the mission to collect, preserve and share the history of Manchester, New Hampshire USA. The Association operates the Millyard Museum and Research Center.
The Millyard Museum is located at 200 Bedford Street in the historic Amoskeag Millyard. Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The Research Center is located at 129 Amherst Street in the Victory Park Historic District. The Research Center is open to the public on Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and by appointment.
Admission for both facilities is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors (62 and over) and for college students, $4 for children 12-18, and free for children under 12. Group rates are available. Please call (603) 622-7531 for more information, or visit the website www.manchesterhistoric.org.
