Comcast's and Level 3's pending acquisitions of Time Warner Cable and tw telecom could have a major effect on the status of the top U.S. Ethernet providers, reports Vertical Systems Group in its Mid-2014 U.S. Carrier Ethernet Leaderboard.

"Four of the top nine providers are engaging in merger activity. We're not speculating whether these deals will close this year or next year, but those are likely to definitely shake up the Leaderboard."

Vertical Systems Group's LEADERBOARDs are industry benchmarks for measuring Ethernet market presence based on port installations. Our biannual LEADERBOARDs publicly rank the market share leaders. Other providers with Ethernet share are cited in either the Challenge or Market Player tier. Detailed share results are available to subscribers of Vertical's ENS @Ethernet Market Analysis Program.

Orange Business retains the number one position, with BT Global ranking a close second. Level 3 had the largest share gain in the first half of the year, which boosts its rank from seventh to sixth position, ahead of NTT. AT&T gained share to retain fifth position, edging out Level 3 by a narrow margin.
