Dementia Care: Person-Centered Care Planning & Practice Recommendations Call
What : National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care and Quality Assurance Performance Improvement
When : Tuesday, March 20 from 1:30 to 3 pm ET

During this call, gain insight on the phase two changes for person-centered care planning and discharge planning. Also, learn about the new Alzheimer’s Association Dementia Care Practice Recommendations. Additionally, CMS shares updates on the progress of the National Partnership to Improve Dementia Care in Nursing Homes. A question and answer session follows the presentations.

Call for 2018 Health & Aging Policy Fellows Program: Applications Now Open!
Health and Aging Policy Fellows Progam invites candidates with a strong commitment to health and aging issues, leadership potential, and interest in aging-relevant policy work to join the next class of Health and Aging Policy Fellows (2018-19).

The Health and Aging Policy Fellows Program aims to create a cadre of leaders who will serve as change agents in health and aging policy to ultimately improve the health care of older adults. The year-long fellowship offers a rich and unique training and enrichment program that is focused on current policy issues, communication skills development, and professional networking opportunities to provide fellows with the experience and skills necessary to help affect policy.

The NIA Butler-Williams Scholars Program (formerly Summer Institute on Aging Research) is accepting applications for an intensive introduction to aging research.

This program for investigators new to aging research is focused on the breadth of research supported by the National Institute on Aging, including basic biology, neuroscience, behavioral and social research, geriatrics and clinical gerontology. As an offering through the NIA Office of Special Populations, program content will include a focus on health disparities, research methodologies, and funding opportunities.

The 2018 B-W Scholars Program will be held July 30-August 3, 2018 in Bethesda, Maryland. Support in most cases is available for travel and living expenses.

Call for Manuscripts: Special Issue on Family Focused Care of Older Adults
The Journal of Family Nursing (JFN) is a peer-reviewed, quarterly journal of nursing research, practice, education, and policy issues, as well as empirical and theoretical analyses on the subject of family health. Its interdisciplinary, international, and collaborative perspectives examine cultural diversity and families across the life cycle. JFN is ranked 3rd among 116 journals in the Nursing Science Category of the 2016 SCI, with a 2016 Impact Factor of 2.537.
Authors are encouraged to submit their work, which will be presented in a special issue focusing on family focused care of older adults. Research-focused, practice-oriented, and theoretical/conceptual papers are suitable for submission. Review manuscripts are welcome as well as manuscripts which focus on the education of health care professionals to provide family focused care of older adults. A compelling argument for how the paper significantly extends knowledge about the family care of older adults is a central requirement.

Upcoming GUMSHOE Grant Writing Coaching Group!
Are you looking to improve your grantsmanship skills and improve the submission process for NIH research grants? The National Research Mentoring Network (NRMN) is searching for coaches and mentees for the Grant Uncovered: Maximizing, Strategies, Help, Opportunities, and Experiences (GUMSHOE) in Honolulu, HI.
The GUMSHOE program offers mentees an opportunity to work with a coach twice a month to prepare a grant application. They will also have the chance to work with an NIH Grant Program Officer to review grant applications and have their application reviewed by an experienced NIH funded investigator.

The 6-month GUMSHOE program will be held through the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, HI with a Kickoff Meeting being held May 14-18, 2018 .
To apply, one must be of native Hawaiian or Pacific Islander decent, or be working with these particular populations.
