President's Message
One for the books for sure. Many courses throughout most of New England have experience below average precipitation for most of the golf season. The severity of the drought in some areas is the worst we've seen in 60 years! Low pond levels, wells running dry, and water bans have been common issues many area courses are facing. Some much needed rain is in the forecast and the calendar has flipped to September. The shorter days and cooler nights ahead should provide some relief to stressed turf and crew members; both could use a break. I want to invite everyone to attend the Annual meeting. This is a great time to let the board know of any thoughts or concerns you may have. This year's slate of officers will be voted on, officer reports, and any changes to our bylaws that may need amending. We also will be providing some education after the meeting. Dr. Bruce Clark from Rutgers will be here talking about Dollar Spot control and some new fungicides. This should be a great event and remember the cost free! Stay tuned for more information on the annual meeting.
Thank You,
EJ

October Member Meeting - Laconia Country Club
Aging Gracefully: Minding the Needs of Mature Trees
Speakers: Gretchen Pettis and Russell Warnock Bartlett Tree Experts
Death and taxes - these are the only certainties in life, right? While the government hasn't (yet) found a way to levy taxes on trees, and the life span of trees varies greatly, death is inevitable. Once trees reach the stage known as 'over mature', a combination of many small factors, rather than a single large catastrophic event, is often the main cause of mortality. Common, day-to-day activities and actions which occur on a golf course can contribute to, or even initiate, a 'spiral of decline' which gradually topples a large, aged tree. Invasive insects have complicated tree health management and requires landscape managers to become more vigilant than ever. This 90 minute presentation will cover how to provide optimum care for large specimen trees on golf courses and how to look out for signs and symptoms of decline or invasive insect infestation to enable you to maximize an aging tree's potential for years of beneficial service.

Several Member Courses Going Green
When it comes to your equipment and vehicles, there are many practical and affordable products to make your golf course "greener." The products range from motor oil (both conventional and full synthetic) to hydraulic oil to greases to bar & chain oil to 2 cycle engine oil to penetrants and lubricants and more. ALL meet the manufacturers' specs, so there are no concerns with regards to warranties. Most products are bio-based and biodegradable; all products make your course "greener." Imagine the peace of mind knowing that your hydraulic oil is biodegradable.
Several NHGCSA Members are using these products including Pease, Sagamore, Mt Washington Hotel and Exeter Country Club.
