NJASA Legislative Update
On Monday, December 12, 2016 the following legislative activity occurred:

A-3785 Downey/Houghtaling/Jasey/Singleton/Holley 
Requires State to pay educational costs of students who reside in homeless shelter outside district of residence for more than one year.
Reported and Referred to Assembly Appropriations Committee

A-4165 Chaparro/Mukherji/Chiaravalloti/McKnight 
Requires driver education course, certain new driver brochures, and driver's license written exam to include cyclist and pedestrian safety information.
Reported out of Assembly Comm. with Amendments, 2nd Reading

A-4206 Karabinchak/Prieto/Webber/Holley  
Requires candidates for election to school board to file with their nominating petitions specific affirmation that they have not been convicted of crimes that would disqualify them from office.

A-4284 Quijano/Benson 
Provides that school districts may receive reimbursement for costs incurred on or after January 1, 2016 for testing school drinking water for lead.

ACR-219 Quijano/Oliver 
Expresses Legislature's intent that school districts and public institutions of higher education continue to act as safe zones and protect identities and data related to undocumented students and families.
