Member Spotlight:

Name: Rob & Brenda Hager
Company: Hager Kitchens & Baths, a division of RF Hager Construction, LLC
Years in the industry: 30
Certifications/Awards: Over 20 Grand Awards through the York Builders Association

NKBA: Please describe a little about your background and how RF Hager was created.
RF Hager: This year marks 30 years in the Industry.  Rob started RF Hager in 1986, with the first project being a kitchen remodel. Over the years, we've built custom homes, flipped homes (before it was in vogue), built additions, remodeled bathrooms, kitchens and basements. In 2015, we decided to focus our attention solely on Kitchens and Baths - those are the projects we enjoy designing and building the most and our awards are a testament. Rob and I make a great team; he has the natural mechanical aptitude and a passion for problem solving. He's also a bit of a perfectionist. I enjoy working with our clients, developing the design and selecting final finishes as well as providing the day to day support to our team and our clients'.   We have received over 20 Grand Awards for our kitchens and baths over the last 30 years from the York Builder's Association.

NKBA: How valuable has the local NKBA chapter been for you and your business?
Hager: We are relatively new members to the local NKBA Chapter. We feel it will be a valuable resource for continuing education as well as staying current with design trends, innovative products, and an opportunity to meet new vendors.

NKBA: What was your favorite design project to work on and why?
Hager: I am currently re-designing the kitchen in a 1980's condo which is built on slab. The client's objective is to have an open kitchen adjacent to a small gathering space. This particular project was rather challenging since we have both the condo association and the township to satisfy as it relates to making structural and exterior aesthetic changes. Due to the Association Covenants - we were limited to working within the confines of the footprint and also were not permitted to eliminate or change any of the windows. The design I finally developed was better than any of the concepts involving changing the windows. I enjoyed working on this design as I had to think out of the box to overcome my own "design block".

NKBA: What is your favorite kitchen and/or bath trend right now and why?
Hager: Our most favorite design trend right now is the freestanding tub. There are so many options; traditional styles, contemporary styles, small tubs, large tubs, tubs with an air system, soaking tubs, inexpensive tubs and very expensive tubs - you can satisfy most clients. Within the last year, we've installed tubs ranging in size from a 52" claw foot tub to a 72" contemporary rectangular shaped tub.

NKBA: What was your favorite NKBA program that you attended (locally or nationally) and why?
Hager: We've enjoyed and learned something new from all the meetings we've attended. The Vendor Product Night at the York Art Institute is always a favorite.

NKBA: What is one piece of design advice you live by?
Hager: It's more of a creed; we always strive to exceed our client's expectations.  It's a real pleasure and a sincere compliment to have many clients' express their appreciation by sending us referrals.
