Vancouver - The New Relationship Trust (NRT) has allocated $500,000 for Youth and Elder Initiatives in 2016-2017.

Each year, NRT funds projects from First Nation Elders and Youth groups from across British Columbia (BC) to organize culture and language projects, leadership events, and attend camps and conferences.  Sponsorship will also be provided by NRT to the 40th Annual Elders Gathering, which will held in Williams Lake, BC from July 11th to 14th, 2016.

"Our youth require our support to become strong members of our communities, and Elders carry the wisdom to explain our commitment to our lands and water and the connection to our past.  By supporting Elders and Youth groups, NRT is continuing our commitment to help support strong First Nations communities for many generations to come," explains NRT CEO Cliff Fregin.
A not-for-profit corporation, NRT was created by a $100 million fund provided by the BC government in 2005.  NRT is mandated to support BC First Nation communities in their efforts to build capacity in order to become healthy, prosperous and self-sufficient.  The inclusion of youth and Elders is essential to strong, healthy First Nations: Elders hold the wisdom of past generations; and youth provide the key to a healthy and vital future.
