NSA expands spying, DHS buys more ammo

In a week where we saw the United States slide 13 places to 46th in the 2014 World Press Freedom Index, we are now seeing that the National Security Agency will likely increase its database on phone records of Americans and the Department of Homeland Security is purchasing another 704 million rounds of ammunition over the next four years. This means that despite denials by the government that the NSA is spying on you, it acknowledges keeping phone records for more than five years. Additionally, the Government Accountability Office is saying that there are roughly 70,000 DHS agents and the DHS ammo is enough for 2,500 rounds per agent. Can anyone say "P-O-L-I-C-E  S-T-A-T-E?

Government lawyers involved in lawsuits over the NSA phone-records program believe federal-court rules on preserving evidence require the agency to stop destroying older phone records. The Wall Street Journal writes: "As a result, the government would expand the database beyond its original intent, at least while the lawsuits are active...one official said that even if a decision is made to retain the information, it would be held only for the purpose of litigation and not be subject to searches. The government currently collects phone records on millions of Americans in a vast database that it can mine for links to terror suspects. The database includes records of who called whom, when they called and for how long."

CNSNews reports that In Appendix III of the GAO report, "Department of Homeland Security Ammunition Contracts, as of October 1, 2013," it states that "the 29 existing DHS ammunition contracts extend over the next 4 fiscal years and have a remaining contract limit of approximately 704 million rounds (for various ammunition types) if every option for purchasing ammunition were exercised into fiscal year 2018...As of October 2013, the DHS had a total amount of 159 million ammunition rounds on hand in inventory, which when divided by the estimated number of DHS officers of 70,000, comes to about 2,271 rounds per agent."

Alarming to me is that there are so many people in this country who call themselves Christians and they are not alarmed by this news. They repeatedly tell me that I, and others who believe like me, am a nationalist and am not concerned about the kingdom of God. I keep saying it is not an either-or type of thing. We should be showing our citizenship in the kingdom of God by our actions here on earth. Jesus said in Matthew 5:16, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." To allow our free country, where we are free to spread the good news of the gospel, to fall into despotism when we have have authority to disallow it, is a great sin. Christianity needs to become more vocal and protective of our God-given freedom.
