Application Deadline: May 31, 2018
International Information Science Foundation
160,000 yen per trip = $1,953.60 CAD Travel Grants to Japan, for research collaborations or conference presentations of researchers younger than 40 or grad students

Only one-week long trips are funded

Key Dates:
Application Deadline: May 31, 2018

Summary:
The International Information Science Foundation (IISF) in Japan has been supporting the travel expenses of outstanding young computer scientists who wish to visit Japan for research purposes.
Supported activities by IISF are;
  1. Presentation at an international conference on computing science held in Japan.
  2. Conducting research at a Japanese university or research institute.

Eligibility:
  1. The applicant should be a scientist doing fundamental research in computer science at a university or research institute (including graduate studies).
  2. The applicant must be a citizen of a country other than Japan, and should be at most 40 years old.
  3. If presenting at an international conference, the paper must have been accepted before applying to IISF.
  4. If visiting a university or research institute, the application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation (invitation) from a host researcher at that university or institute. Obtaining such an invitation is the responsibility of the applicant, not of IISF.

Additional Information:
The amount of support is fixed, and is based strictly upon the location of the applicant's own university or institute. It is determined by taking into account the cost of economy airfare along the shortest route between the point of departure and Japan, and living expenses for about one week. Even if the duration of stay of the applicant is longer than one week, or the applicant is required to travel domestically within Japan, the amount will not be increased.

The support will be paid after arriving in Japan, through the organizing committee of the international conference or the host scientist in Japan, as appropriate.

How to Apply:

DSS
No DSS required since the funding will be paid out to the researcher in Japan.

Five (5) business days prior to a funding agency submission deadline, University Research Services requires: (i) an electronic or hard copy of your application (with Department Head and/or Dean signatures if required by the funding agency)  and (ii) an approved TRAQ DSS Form in the TRAQ (Tools for Research at Queen's) system.  For researchers conducting research within the Hospitals (KGH, HDH, PC) or utilizing Hospital resources, the TRAQ DSS Form MUST be submitted at least 15 business days prior to the agency deadline to ensure all hospital approvals are in place.  It is important for researchers to consult early with the various hospital departments (Hospital Operational Directors) to get an estimate to help develop their budgets and to consult well in advance of the deadline (>1 month) to discuss any issues involving impact on patient flow, budgeting for hospital services and cost recovery, preparing a human ethics review submission, etc.
