Andre Pater exhibit in Middleburg
When you are out and about in the Middleburg, VA area this spring, check out what's going on at the National Sporting Library and Museum (link: http://nationalsporting.org). This month, on April 21, they will open a retrospective exhibit of Andre Pater's work, called: Andre Pater: In a Sporting Light. Pater's style is often compared to the great 20th-century British sporting artist, Sir Alfred Munnings.

  

First International Forum for the Aftercare of Racehorses Conference Set for May 2017 in Washington

The International Forum for the Aftercare of Racehorses is holding its first conference in Washington D.C on May 17th and 18th. Representatives from key areas of the equine industry will be speaking at this two-day forum. More details can be found here.

There are no racing opportunities this weekend, but next weekend is the Fair Hill Pt to Pt featuring an array of races for youngsters.  From lead line trot races, to pony flat races, to pony and junior horse field master's chases... they have it all!  Entries close this coming Monday at NOON.  Visit www.centralentryoffice.com to enter.

Willowdale Steeplechase signed on this week for a second year with US Pony Racing managing their pony races.  This year's junior races at Willowdale consist of a lead line trot race, along with small, medium, and large pony flat races.  All ponies must be previewed and approved by US Pony Racing in advance, so contact them today if you and/or your mount are new to pony racing or have not been previewed yet.  The races will be run on Sunday, May 14th, Mother's Day.  Visit www.goponyracing.com for more details.


Young Horse News

We were excited to hear that Down Royal, a 2014 filly by Alphabet Soup out of Kate Dalton's multiple Stakes placed mare Miss Crown, made her first start in a flat race at Aiken Spring Steeplechase. The eye catching filly was born chestnut, turned strawberry roan for her yearling year, and had turned grey by the time of her first start.  Unfortunately Miss Crown was lost last summer due to foaling complications. However, it is certainly great to see Down Royal carrying on the family tradition.
