President's Message:

Greetings NTMCA Members!

One more week and election season will be over. For those of you with run-offs, just hold on, you're almost there! As with most of our responsibilities, the time and effort you all put into elections is often overlooked. So, thank you for all you do, the stress you endure, and the dedication you give to fulfilling your duties without complaint and calming the chaos around you. Your commitment to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process IS appreciated!

APRIL PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR SUMMARY
BIG thanks to the Seminar Committee (Christine Green, University Park; Kristi Gilbert, Argyle; Alicia Smith, Boyd) for doing an awesome job with this year's Athenian Dialogue. Guest speaker Max Woodward did an excellent job of presenting Profiles in Courage by John F. Kennedy. I think everyone took away a little bit of history and a deeper understanding of the Senators highlighted. Please take a moment to view the Snapfish  pictures of the event.

Thank you, too, to the sponsors for their continued support of our organization. Without their assistance many of our programs would go unfunded.
The Alyce Deering Scholarship Committee raised almost $200 for the cause by conducting a 50/50 raffle at the Seminar. Way to go!

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE
Kim Sutter (Euless) and Theresa Scott (Flower Mound) have been following the bills being brought to the legislature this session. We hope to bring you an update at our next meeting. You can keep apprised of daily changes by accessing the TML Legislative Update webpage.

MEMBER SURVEY
Survey results were discussed at the March meeting and we look forward to further discussion at the June meeting. Please send your feedback or questions to any one of us on the Board if you cannot attend. We'd be happy to present your comments.

One of the items that had been requested many times over the years is to schedule 'after 5 socials'. Our first was held on April 24th in Grapevine. It must have been poor timing because only two of us attended. We'll try it again on May 18th, at 5:30pm, at Boomer Jack's Grill, 2300 Airport Freeway, Bedford, TX 76022. Please mark your calendars and look for us on the patio. We hope you'll take time to join us for a few laughs and a 'cold beverage' to unwind after a long day.

FY 2017-2018 BUDGET
The Board has begun working on the Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Budget. We are conducting a review of current year-to-date and projected expenses. If you have any thoughts or concerns, please email any one of us on the Board. We want to work together to achieve the goals of the membership!

NEXT MEETING
The Chapter does not conduct a meeting in May due to elections. Our next meeting will be held on June 22nd at the "Innovate Flower Mound Entrepreneur Center" at 650 Parker Square, Flower Mound. Remember this is our Awards Luncheon, so please try to attend and celebrate the accomplishments of your friends and colleagues.

It continues to be my honor to work with the Board and our many committee volunteers to provide our members the very best programs we can. I thank you for your support, friendship, and continued service.

Respectfully Yours,   Carol Borges, President
NTMCA Clerk of the Year & TMCA Clerk of the Year Nomination
PLEASE NOTE THE DEADLINE!! NO NOMINATIONS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED TO DATE.

Each year we get an opportunity to honor one of our own for their hard work and dedication to our Chapter and our profession. Past recipients of the "Municipal Clerk of the Year" Award have shown commitment to leadership and a devotion to mentoring other Municipal Clerks along the way. Nominating a fellow Clerk is the perfect way to express your appreciation and lets the nominee know their relentless efforts have not gone unnoticed.

This year's submission deadline for nominating a Chapter member is Friday, May 12, 2017 . The nomination form, and list of nominee qualifications are available.  These nominations are eligible for both the Chapter "Municipal Clerk of the Year" Award AND the Chapter recommended State "Municipal Clerk of the Year" Award.

Please contact either Jean Dwinnell at 972-304-3664 or jdwinnell@coppelltx.gov , or Jeannie Kenyon at 817-459-6184 or Jeannie.kenyon@arlingtontx.gov  if you have questions.

DID YOU KNOW??
DID YOU KNOW...........What is a CMC?

Have you often wondered what CMC is and how to get it?  CMC stands for Certified Municipal Clerk.  The CMC designation is a program through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC).  Much like the Texas Registered Municipal Clerks (TRMC) program, it consists of continuing education, membership, and municipal experience.  The first requirement is becoming a member of IIMC (annual dues).  IIMC will only certify you after you have been an active member for two years.  The second step is to enroll in the certification program.  You will need to submit your application for admission plus enrollment fee.  To obtain the CMC designation you will need 60 points of education as well as 50 points of experience for a total of 110 points.  You may enroll in the CMC program while accumulating your points. There is no deadline to complete the point requirements. Educational points can be easily obtained by attending the IIMC annual conference, acquiring college degree credit, completing IIMC online courses, or attending credited Athenian Dialogues throughout the year. IIMC's Education Department will keep you informed of any education opportunities offered when you enroll into the program. For municipal experience (50 points), you will need letters of employment verification and, of course, current employment is required. Upon completion of all requirements, you'll pay the CMC certification fee, then receive the certificate and lapel pin. The CMC Recertification Program was eliminated in 2010, so continuing education beyond the CMC may be applied toward the Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation.

Social Gatherings...Fun, Food & Friendship!
In response to suggestions made in the Membership Survey, the Board has decided to try out a Social Gathering on a rotating basis.

These events will allow our membership to get together outside the normal luncheon hour constraints and the normal work hours to have fun and spend time getting to know each other better.

No need to sign up early. Just show up and we will have an area for us to gather. Everyone is responsible for their own drinks & food.
Next Social Hour:
Thursday, May 18, 2017 "May Madness" @ Boomer Jack's Grill, 2300 Airport Freeway, Bedford, TX 76022

We hope these functions provide the opportunity for us to learn about each other, let off some steam and enjoy our time together!

If you would like offer a spot that you think others would enjoy for one of these gatherings, please reach out to one of the Board members.

Meeting Reservations

Members we need your help!

In order to be able to provide food for all that attend our monthly meetings, we need to know who will be attending, so please let us know your intentions by the RSVP date.

Deadlines are included in the invitation, and on the meeting webpage.

The best way to take care of this is to plan to attend all of the meetings and RSVP when you receive the invite!

Thank you for your cooperation!
