The decade old decline in traffic fatalities has stalled and reversed in the past two years. Last year, roadway casualties increased in nearly every crash category including speeding, unbelted occupants, motorcycle riders, commercial vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists and involved young drivers. The result, 2016 saw the highest number of roadway deaths in ten years and the trend continued through 2017.
