Wind Ensemble in their Carnegie Hall Debut!
Wind Ensemble: NY International Music Festival | Carnegie Hall | April 11, 2017
CONGRATULATIONS TO WIND ENSEMBLE and Director, Michael James for their inspiring performance at Stern Auditorium in Carnegie Hall on April 11th. They were presented with a Gold Award (the highest possible) at the 2017 New York International Music Festival. The level of musicianship they have shown and their hard work and dedication have brought them to this pinnacle. Memories for a lifetime and a place in Ballard Performing Arts history are theirs. 
And from Mr. James:  
"It is hard to put into words the enthusiasm of the audience who heard the Wind Ensemble's performance and the spirits of the students after our final cutoff.  We received a very long ovation and we are all extremely proud of the performance that we brought to the stage at Carnegie Hall and the manner in which we represented Ballard High School and the Ballard Performing Arts program."

Syttende Mai  Parade - May 17th - Chaperones and Water Needed!
Make sure May 17th is on your calendars to watch Ballard's award-winning Marching Band in our hometown parade!  We will need at least 10 chaperones at about 4:00 PM to walk the parade route with the Band and six 24 bottle cases of water. Contact Ingrid Riley to volunteer or donate water for this event.

Jazz Bands at the Royal Room -  Sunday, April 30th 
From 5pm to 7pm you will find both Ballard Jazz Bands setting the tone in the Royal Room at 5000 Rainier Ave. South. Come hang with the cool cats. $10 food/drink minimum. Dinner is also available. No cover, donations go to the Jazz program. All ages are welcome.
Duck Island Jazz Festival - Monday, May 1st
Vocal Jazz will be participating in the Duck Island Jazz Festival  at Blanchet High School. This informal jazz festival will feature jazz choirs from Blanchet, Ballard, and Jackson High School (Everett). Students will have the opportunity to perform for each other, work with clinicians Kelly and Amanda Kunz, and put on a concert with Last Call, a Seattle based semi-professional jazz choir. Parents are encouraged to join us for the informal concert at 5:30 PM. Schedule is as follows:
3:00 - 5:00 pm Kelly and Amanda work with choirs (about 40 min each)  
5:00 - 5:30 pm Dinner Break (pizza)
5:30 - 6:30 pm HS Choirs perform a few songs each
6:30 - 7:15 pm Last Call performs 
Jazz Alley - Tuesday, May 30th

Jazz Band I and II and Vocal Jazz will perform at  Jazz Alley on Tuesday, May 30th.  Doors Open at 6pm. Show starts at 7pm.  Get your tickets and reserve your table before they sell out!   Tickets are available now . Please note musicians and singers do not need to purchase admission tickets.
Invite your friends and family to this fun evening of music in one of the most famous jazz venues in all of Seattle!

Choir News
Solo and Ensemble - April 28th and 29th 
Solo and Ensemble will be held Friday, April 28th (Ensembles) and Saturday, April 29th (Solos) at Central Washington University in Ellensburg.  Men's Quartet, Women's Chamber Choir, Men's Ensemble and Chamber Singers (Vocal Jazz) will all be performing on Friday. Thank you to all of the drivers who volunteered!  Expect driving forms shortly.
Choir Tour to Portland - May 5th - 7th
Concert Choir and Advanced Chorale are headed to Portland.  See t he Portland Choir Itinerary for more information about the trip. 
* Just announced - May 6th at 3:30 PM - Choir at the Old Church
The Old Church Concert Hall  is a nonprofit, non-religious, performance and events venue in downtown Portland's West End cultural district. We've got some of the best acoustics anywhere, we're a historic landmark, and we're charming and friendly. The Old Church is also wheelchair accessible and air conditioned.

Payment 2 of $130 was due April 4th. Pay online or by check made payable to BPA. Students who have participated in fundraising activities, please see Student Account Balance Spreadsheet for individual student funds to be deducted from the payment. The Cast of Les Misérables at the PTSA BASH!
Saturday, April 29th at North Seattle College
The cast of Les Misérables will be performing "One Day More" at this year's PTSA BASH on Saturday, April 29 th at North Seattle College. We will rehearse in the space at 4:00 PM and will stay through the performance that evening.  Students should wear their Les Miz t-shirts and black pants.Tickets and Information for the 25th Annual BASH Dinner and Auction can be found in the BASH Section of the newsletter below.

BPA is the Fund A Need Recipient at the BASH!
25th Annual PTSA BASH Dinner and Auction - Saturday, April 29th at NSCC
The BASH is our PTSA's Annual Dinner and Auction to raise money for grants to support the unfunded activities of our Ballard High School students. This year's event will be held at North Seattle College Saturday, April 29th from 5:30 - 10:00 PM. Every year the BASH features a Fund A Need to raise direct cash donations to support a specific need. The Fund A Need in previous years has ranged from the BHS Film Program, the Gains Program, to Academic Needs. This year, Ballard Performing Arts has been selected as the Fund A Need recipient. Donations will support much needed equipment and uniform needs of our ever growing Ballard Performing Arts program.   For more information and to buy tickets click the Buy Tickets button. Spilled Ink Music & Art Spilled Ink
Come Support BPA Students this Saturday Ballard Public Library 
The Spilled Ink Music & Art event is happening this Saturday at the Ballard Public Library after hours from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. This free , fun event is planned and put on by the Ballard Branch Service Learning group AND the BHS Ink Club. The show features  art and literature by BHS students and 11 musical groups/individuals (the majority are in the Ballard Performing Art program.) In Search of the Next BPA Treasurer! 
Have you got the skills to pay the bills?

We want to fill this position ASAP so that our current Treasurer, Mike Hansen, can assist with transition!  This position serves on the finance committee, presents the budget to the membership; keeps accurate records at all times; receives, issues receipts, and deposits promptly in an authorized account all monies and disburse same according to the approved yearly budget. Presents a written financial report every month and such other times as required by the president; provides all financial records if requested by the president or board of directors members; closes the books on June 30 and submit the books and records for financial review to a financial review committee, handles all moneys and deposits, maintains ledger. Job can be done at home with the exception of monthly meetings. Time commitment: 8 hours/week during the school year and 4 hours/week in summer.

Summertime is an important time for students to continue working on their musical or theatrical skills, to meet and work with students from other schools, and to gain experience  for college applications.
