Summer 2013 Newsletter

NYPACE is proud to report our continued contributions to the small business community of New York. We currently have five projects ongoing, five to be launched over the remainder of summer, two that recently closed successfully, and a few additional projects lined up for the fall.  Our dedicated volunteer advisors continue to provide valuable support to inspiring entrepreneurs with businesses ranging from a Muay Thai studio to barber/beauty shops to a fashion design firm.  Read below for a spotlight on two of our projects.

On July 18th we had our NYPACE Summer Networking Event at Hudson Terrace for active members.  It was a great evening of networking and exchanging of experiences and lessons from NYPACE current and previous projects!  Event pictures below:

NYPACE is looking forward to another important event:  NYPACE 2nd Annual Fundraising Event on October 7th - "SAVE THE DATE!" For the second year, NYPACE will hold our fundraising celebration at the Soho House. All of NYPACE's supporters, volunteers, entrepreneurs and partners will be invited to attend. Look out for more details to follow!

With all of the projects in our pipeline, we need your help!  We are all calling all Captains & Advisors - if you are interested in volunteering on one of our exciting summer projects, please email us at [email protected]. Thank you!

Completed and New Project Spotlight:

COMPLETED PROJECT:  An NYPACE team recently completed working with Lupe Moreno, an entrepreneur looking to lease out a store-front space for her growing real estate business, Harlem Lady Real Estate. Lupe identified a building and, with the help of NYPACE, put together a presentation to the owner, expressing her interest in their retail space as well as her ability to help them rent the rest of the building's space. The presentation was a success and now Lupe is installed in her space!  Lupe's new office space:

NEW PROJECT:  NYPACE has had a fruitful partnership with Brooklyn Economic Development Corporation (BEDC) and are excited to begin a new project with one of their entrepreneurs. His name is Al Attara and he owns the former Metropolitan Exchange Bank building on 33 Flatbush Ave in Brooklyn.  This building is a cooperative of creative professionals who share clean, affordable office space that includes large common areas. Mr. Attara was featured in a New York Times article. NYPACE looks forward to working with him to further develop his business.

Each of the 8 floors of 33 Flatbush Ave hosts a work area for different industry  professionals, with common areas including a kitchen area as featured above.

Those interested should respond with their relevant experience, resume, and general availability for summer and/or fall 2013 to [email protected]

NYPACE is also continually looking for advisors and volunteers who would like to join our leadership committees. Currently, NYPACE has openings available for:

PQT members are assigned to projects as 'Project Mentors' and work with NYPACE staff and volunteers to address project issues when they arise, ensuring effective project management and, ultimately, project success. The ideal candidate has worked on a few projects as both an advisor as well as a captain of a project.

Entrepreneur Recruiting Committee:
