NYSPHSAA Executive Committee Meets Friday, May 6
The NYSPHSAA Executive Committee will meet on Friday, May 6, at the Hilton Garden Inn in Troy. There are a number of action items to be voted on during the meeting including: Green-to-tee coaching in girls golf, future NYSPHSAA Championship sites, Girls Lacrosse classification cut-off numbers for 4 classes and Ice Hockey classification cut-off numbers. Once the agenda for the May Executive Committee meeting is released, you can review it here.
NYSPHSAA Executive Director Robert Zayas recently met with the NYSED to express the membership’s concerns with the new APP process. NYSPHSAA is excited to release that NYSED will be adding language to the APP to more clearly define tanner scores as “recommendations” and not “requirements.” The following language is a portion of the information that will be added to the APP document:
“The Tanner scores on (chart H found in the APP document) are no longer required numbers, as was the case in the previous Selection Classification Process but, are now recommended numbers for the APP. Please note: The recommended Tanner scores are based on the average Tanner score of the average aged male or female that typically competes at those levels. Tanner scores are higher for females compared to males at the same levels, which more accurately reflects the earlier ages that females achieve physical maturity.”
Spalding Ball Adoption Goes into Effect in August
