Greetings!
Happy autumn, food fans! Ready for your word of the day? condiment noun 1. a substance such as salt or ketchup that is used to add flavor to food. Wikipedia goes further. They describe a condiment as something added to foods to impart a particular flavor, enhance its flavor, or to complement the dish. At Nan's many of products we offer can be classified as condiments, and this is something we are proud of. It is our belief that anyone can be a great cook, and simple additions such as balsamic vinegar, olive oil or a mustard blend can add flavor and complexity to good food. In this newsletter we offer two uses of our products as condiments. We have a simple recipe for a gorgeous holiday salad that will impress anyone, but takes minutes to prepare. We will also introduce you to our new line of savory jellies. We want you to think of these not for use in a peanut butter sandwich, but rather as a condiment in cooking. Try them as a glaze for chicken, or a marinade for pork. These are not your grandmother's jellies or jams! As always, we love to hear your ideas! We use them and promote them at shows and on our website! Talk to us! |
Some Jammin' New Products!
Nan's Jammin' Jelly Debut!
Succulent. Spicy. Savory. Sweet. These are evocative words to describe our new product line. There is no doubt these are jellies, but in a way you may not have thought about. Without further ado, here are the new jellies:
Roasted Garlic & Pineapple - slow roasted garlic, sweet ripe tropical pineapple and exotic spices are combined to invigorate the foods you pair with it.
Jalapeo Pineapple - a feisty combination of pineapple and just the right amount of jalapeo. Mild heat.
Two Pepper Pineapple - a unique marriage of red bell pepper, sweet pineapple and fiery Serrano peppers. Medium heat.
On our website we offer some interesting ways to use each as a condiment, from an appetizer to an ingredient in an open-faced turkey sandwich. We also have a marinade and dressing recipe for you to try. We hope you love our new babies as much as we do!

Holiday Recipe Idea
Christmas Caprese Salad
with Brown Sugar Balsamic Dressing
If you are like us, the classic summer food we miss most is a fresh heirloom tomato Caprese salad. Here is a simple and beautiful holiday side dish inspired by the classic. The red tomatoes and fresh green basil make this holiday salad stand out on the table. You can prepare the balsamic dressing ahead to save time. Serves 6 to 8
for the salad:
- 2 pints cherry tomatoes, halved
- 1 bunch fresh basil, thinly sliced (chiffonade)
- 1 pound fresh mozzarella pearls (or fresh mozzarella diced into bite-size pieces)
for the balsamic brown sugar reduction:
directions:
- In a sauce pan over medium-low heat add the balsamic vinegar and the brown sugar. Cook for 3-5 minutes until bubbly and thick. Once reduced, it should be able to coat the back of a spoon. Allow to cool.
- Add the halved tomatoes and fresh mozzarella pearls to a bowl. Before serving, add the fresh basil and drizzle the reduction over the salad. Toss.
