National CyberWatch is proud to share its 2016-2017 Annual Report. It highlights among other things it’s continuation grant from the National Science Foundation, the development of new Information Security curricula, the establishment of the National CyberWatch Curriculum Standards Panel, and the launch of the new Innovations in Cybersecurity Education awards and recognition program.

University of Maryland, Baltimore County going to National CCDC
After a fierce cyber competition among eight colleges and 64 students, University of Maryland, Baltimore County came out ahead, winning a trip to the National Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition in San Antonio, Texas. The colleges faced off March 31 and April 1, proving themselves in a real-life cyber-based scenario.

DoD Cyber Scholarship Getting Revived
The Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Scholarship Program Act of 2017 is getting another look by the government. Funds were phased out in 2013, but this revival would reinstate monies in upwards of $10 million, $2.5 million more than previously available. At least five percent of scholarships would go toward two-year programs, and recipients would be required to do some service for the DoD.

Intel Student Developer Program
Beginning late last fall, Intel offered access to newly optimized frameworks and technologies, hands-on training and workshops for students, data scientists and developers at innovative schools and universities working in the Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence space. It includes a Student Ambassador Program, geared toward graduate students or others with comparable experience.

State of Cybersecurity 
For the third year in a row, ISACA has surveyed security leaders worldwide to determine their insights and experiences with key cybersecurity issues, ranging from workforce challenges and opportunities to the emerging threat landscape. Volume 1 of the report is now available and provides key insights into the persistent skills gap and how it impacts organizations.
