The winners were announced during the Community College Cyber Summit (3CS), and a booklet of all submissions is available for free to all National CyberWatch members.

Scaling Apprenticeships Through Sector-Based Approaches
The U.S. Department of Labor, Employment and Training Administration is pleased to share that the H-1B Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) on “Scaling Apprenticeships Through Sector-Based Approaches” was announced on July 18. The open period is 90 days and closes on Oct. 16 at 4 p.m. (ET).

Cybersecurity Materials Available to Guide Adjunct Faculty
Filling the adjunct gap, many community colleges with cybersecurity programs are finding it difficult to secure adjunct faculty with experience not only in cybersecurity content but also in the pedagogy of transferring this knowledge. National CyberWatch member George Washington University, with a grant from the DoD, has made inroads in addressing this gap by developing an online course on the methods of teaching cybersecurity at community colleges.

Next Virtual Brown Bag Lunch
Get ready for National CyberWatch’s next virtual brown bag lunch on Aug. 8 and 10 on “CTFs in the Classroom: Repurposing Competitions for Measured Learning.” Dr. Joshua Stroschein, assistant professor of cybersecurity at Dakota State University, will lead the sessions. The presentation will introduce a custom designed CTF framework available to solve difficulties inherent in the current CTF space.

Free Seminar
The Johns Hopkins University Information Security Institute is offering a free seminar on research topics in cybersecurity to community college faculty and staff on Tuesday, Aug. 14, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., on the Johns Hopkins campus in Baltimore, MD. The seminar will cover how to obtain course materials, have questions answered and use the course while running through sample lectures and exercises. Space is limited to 20 people.

Government-Backed Cybersecurity Center Opens in Georgia
A cybersecurity center opened last month on Augusta University’s Riverfront Campus in Georgia. Augusta, an National CyberWatch member, houses two buildings which include a secure briefing area and incubator and accelerator to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. The cost, at $100 million, is the largest investment by state government for this kind of facility.

The Cybersecurity Skills Journal: Practice and Research is the nation's first hybrid-access scholarly publication focused exclusively on cybersecurity skills. It seeks to raise the capability maturity of the cybersecurity workforce through open and free dissemination of research on evidence-based practices and private access to digital tools and practice guides.

The launch of the first issue, 3CS Anniversary Special Issue - Five Years of Raising the Capability Maturity Bar , coincided with the fifth annual Community College Cyber Summit (3CS).
