Distinguished Keynote Set for Capitol Tech University’s Doctoral Residency
To help inspire doctoral candidates in Management and Decision Science as well as Cybersecurity at Capitol Technology University, the National CyberWatch member institution is hosting Dr. Gwendolyn Elizabeth Boyd as the keynote speaker for its August Doctoral Residency. She will highlight the relevance and critical need for cyber and analytics experts in high demand STEM fields. The event is free and open to the public.

An Examination in Artificial Intelligence and National Security
Artificial intelligence (AI) in some form has been used in military technology since World War II. In this piece, the authors propose three goals for developing future policy on AI and national security: preserving U.S. technological leadership, supporting peaceful and commercial use, and mitigating catastrophic risk. In their study, they look back on military technology and how AI can be influential.

Harford Community College Receives STEM Grant
In the continued efforts to increase participation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education, Harford Community College (HCC), a National CyberWatch academic member, is furthering the cause after receiving a grant from the National Science Foundation. The grant will be used for scholarships to encourage talented students to continue their education in STEM, in particular biology and engineering majors.

National CyberWatch Center Rolling Out Three New Membership Packages  
At the June 3CS conference, National CyberWatch membership chair, Dr. Barbara Belón, announced the release of a revamped academic member benefits package. In early August, the three new membership plans (academic, individual and corporate) will be released along with corresponding application forms.This fall also will see the launch of an Association Management System complete with user web interface and new capabilities to benefit members.

The Midyear Cybersecurity Report
In his latest blog, David Ulevitch highlights the new threats and dangers posed by the “bad actors” to precede the Midyear Cybersecurity Report (MCR). These adversaries are attacking in more destructive ways to achieve the end goal of preventing defenders from restoring systems and data, making it harder to recover. They’ve coined it destruction of service, which is examined in the MCR along with security trends.

Cryptography, enumeration, log analysis, puzzles. Are they your “thing?” At NCL, folks are enjoying the free spirit of summer by releasing encrypted puzzles on Facebook for you to enjoy!
