NGCP Network Project Informational Webinar: Leap into Science
The Franklin Institute Logo November 15, 2017; 11:00 AM Pacific (2:00 PM Eastern)
Developed by The Franklin Institute Science Museum and supported by NGCP, Leap into Science is a series of workshops pairing hands-on science activities with thematically-linked children's books for children ages 3-10. The program is designed to take place in community settings like libraries, museums, community centers, afterschool programs, and science festivals, to engage underserved audiences in accessible and comfortable settings. Leap into Science is scaling nationally through a train-the-trainer model. NGCP is looking for REGISTERstate leadership teams consisting of 2-3 institutions who will work together to train informal educators who reach urban and rural communities. Webinar attendees will learn more about this project and how to be involved.

GiGirls STEAM Ahead Logorls STEAM Ahead with NASA and NGCP
NASA's Universe of Learning program is a Science Education Cooperative Agreement between NASA's Science Mission Directorate (SMD) and the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) to create and disseminate education products, programs, and professional development experiences that use NASA Astrophysics science, technology, and subject matter experts to advance SMD education objectives on a national scale.
 
STEM programs are encouraged to partner with NASA's Universe of Learning science education program to empower women's success. Events are open to all family members, regardless of gender, but focus on engaging girls in science.
 
Girls STEAM Ahead offers an array of hands-on activities, posters, exhibits, and webinars for programs. The National Girls Collaborative Project is pleased to be in a five year commitment MT Kidswith STScI to help disseminate these resources to NGCP Collaboratives.

SciGirls Professional Development Training
St. Paul, MN; January 27, 2018
Based on the Emmy-award winning PBS KIDS television series SciGirls, local educators are invited to participate in this hands-on, minds-on professional development training hosted by the Great Lakes Aquarium and the Hartley Nature Center. Attendees will learn the latest research for exciting and engaging girls (and boys) in STEM, experience hands-on STEM activities, leave with curriculum that puts a creative twist on teaching STEM, learn how to modify activities to engage kids in STEM using the SciGirls Seven and discover additional online resources that enhance teaching and learning experiences for all kids. Register.

The FabFems Spotlight highlights women from the FabFems Role Model Directory. FabFems are enthusiastic about the science and technology work they do and want to inspire a future generation of FabFems. Search the Role Model Directory to find FabFems in your area. We benefit from role models at all stages of our lives.

Jackie Tran Meet Jackie Tran. She recently completed her undergraduate studies at UC San Diego in Environmental Engineering. Jackie has been involved with the Society of Women Engineers since her collegiate years and has participated in several STEM outreach events and served in several leadership roles. She is currently wrapping up her role on the 2016-2017 SWE-SD Executive Council as one of the Section Representatives and looks forward to continuing her involvement with the section. Jackie said, "SWE provided me with support through my studies and introduced me to so many amazing inspiring role models. I hope to return the favor and inspire girls to pursue their interests in the STEM field."

National AfterSchool Alliance (NAA) Virtual Convention
November 3-16, 2017
Workshops delivered to afterschool professionals in an online format. Conducted entirely online - all you need is an internet connection. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation and the National Girls Collaborative Project will be presenting an interactive workshop that will explore innovative ideas for blending STEM and wellness. Participants will leave with easy-to-implement ideas and evidence-based resources along with talking points for building support with school administrators. The workshop will feature a new resource, "STEM and Wellness: A Powerful Equation for Equity," developed in partnership with the NAA and the Afterschool Alliance.

Supercomputing Conference (SC17)
Denver, CO; November 12-17, 2017
The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis (SC17) features a Student Cluster Competition, Student Volunteers Program, HPC for Undergraduates program, and a Doctoral Showcase. Additionally, events for students include a Job and Opportunity Fair, a Mentor/Protégé Program, networking events, and full access to the conference. Register.

Computer Science Education Week
Nationwide; December 4-10, 2017
Computer Science Education Week (CSEdWeek) provides an opportunity to raise awareness about the impact of computing, the richness of computing careers, and the critical need for computer science (CS) education. CSEdWeek is a call to action to inspire students and colleagues about CS education, to employ new and better strategies for engagement, and to connect with the broader community around the need for and value of CS education. Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) invites career and technical education professionals to learn about best practices and innovative programming, how to use technologies to enhance learning, ways to help students plan their secondary careers, and strategies for project-based learning. Women of Color STEM Entrepreneurship Conference
Mesa, AZ; March 1-3, 2018
The conference is a collaborative effort to advocate for increased participation of women of color in entrepreneurship experiences and small business enterprise; to advance entrepreneurship education and entrepreneurial student engagement; and to transform the ways that entrepreneurship is viewed, taught, and experienced in higher education. Call for proposals is now open. Early bird registration ends January 15, 2018.
SpotlightConnectory
The Connectory Spotlight highlights programs and opportunities in The Connectory. This free online collaboration tool for STEM program providers helps them find partners based on interests, as well as showcase STEM opportunities to families.
 
Since November 23, 2017 marks both Thanksgiving and Fibonacci Day we are turning the spotlight on the "M" in STEM. MATHCOUNTS provides engaging math programs to middle school students of all ability levels in order to build confidence and improve attitudes towards math and problem solving. Students exist at a critical juncture in which their love for mathematics must be nurtured, or their fear of mathematics must be overcome. MATHCOUNTS provides students with the kinds of experiences that foster growth and transcend fear to lay a foundation for future success. 

MATHCOUNTS
The MATHCOUNTS Competition Series is a national program that provides students the opportunity to compete in live, in-person contests against and alongside their peers. The Competition Series has four levels of competition: school, chapter, state, and national. Each level of competition is comprised of four rounds: Sprint, Target, Team, and Countdown Round. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about three hours to complete.

Applied Digital Skills
Free ready-to-use curriculum offering 90+ hours of video and project-based content that teaches digital literacy skills for life and professional scenarios. Includes step-by-step guide on how to set up your first class in less than five minutes. Developed by Google, the program provides lesson plans and example rubrics, as well as the ability to track learner progress. This program has received ISTE's Seal of Alignment for Proficiency.

NCWIT Aspirations One-Pager
The National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) has created a one-page resource for Aspirations in Computing (AiC). AiC provides technical girls and women with ongoing engagement, visibility, and encouragement for their computing-related interests and achievements from high school through college and into the workforce. Resource includes key results, why you should participate, and ways to get involved.

SciGirls CONNECT
SciGirls CONNECT is a national outreach effort to encourage educators, both formal and informal, to adopt new, research-based strategies to engage girls in STEM. Activity and video resource include: Earth & Space, Engineering & Design, Physical Science, Technology, and more.

The Connectory - Winter Camps!
The Connectory is the go-to place to find STEM year-round. Many girl focused winter STEM opportunities are available. Search by location, dates, area of interest, and/or age group. If you are program provider, join The Connectory to collaborate with STEM programs and promote your NGC_Connectory_Combined upcoming STEM opportunities to families. Opportunities are visible publicly to families. Programs are visible to other STEM providers.

Persian Women in Tech Logo Persian Women in Tech
Persian Women in Tech is an nonprofit dedicated to celebrating and supporting Iranian women in Tech/STEM who are engineers, technologists, founders, entrepreneurs, and investors. Monthly meetups take place in event cities (currently in San Francisco, SouthBay, Los Angeles, Boston, London, and coming soon to D.C., Stockholm, New York, Orange County, and Vancouver) where guest speakers and career established women who work, start, and fund tech companies come together to connect, mentor, support, and empower each other.
