 Christians need to cooperate in creating Egypt's new government to ensure that all of the nation's citizens are treated as equals, said Jesuit Father Samir Khalil Samir, after president Hosni Mubarak stepped down in February. Samir, an Egyptian expert in Islam and adviser to the church on Muslim-Christian relations, said that what is most important now is that the reformed constitution brings with it equality for all people, Christians and Muslims. Jesuit Named Rector of Archdiocese of St. Louis Seminary
 Jesuit Father John Horn has been named the next rector and president of Kenrick-Glennon Seminary, the seminary of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, effective July 1. Fr. Horn is the co-founder of the Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF) at Creighton University in Omaha and has more than 30 years of experience in Catholic education, spiritual direction, pastoral ministry and administration.  Jesuit Brother Guy Consolmagno, an astronomer at the Vatican Observatory, said that the supposed conflict between religion and science really doesn't exist. Jesuit-run Vatican Radio Celebrates 80 Years
 Vatican Radio, which is managed by the Society of Jesus, celebrated 80 years of broadcasting in February. The station debuted with a broadcast of Pope Pius XI in Latin on February, 12, 1931. To commemorate the anniversary, there is an exhibition at the Vatican Museums and a book on the history of the last 30 years will be published. Jesuit's Impact on Arizona Remembered 300 Years after His Death
 Jesuit Father Eusebio Francisco Kino, who established a string of Catholic missions in northwest Mexico and Southern Arizona, will be recognized for his legacy through a series of events in Tucson commemorating the 300th anniversary of his death March 15, 1711. The first event in the celebration was a panel presentation on Kino with Jesuit Father Eduardo Fernandez at the Arizona History Museum. More >> |
Jesuit Reflects on his Teaching Experience during Regency
 Jesuit Chris Ryan is teaching at Nativity Middle School in Worcester, Mass., for his regency period of formation, and he wrote that he is learning "the value of patience, the necessity of compassion amid the sternness of discipline and the humbling truth that the real flowering of these young boys is a process that far surpasses the contributions that I will make. "Regency has challenged me not only to discover and develop these talents within myself, but also to share them confidently, trusting that divine grace will guide my actions and growth each day," he wrote. Metropolitan Museum of Art Exhibit Features Jesuit Works
 An exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, "Commemorating His Majesty," includes paintings and calligraphies by Jesuits that were imperially commissioned during the Qianlong era in China. The exhibit, which runs through May 1, includes works by Jesuits Giuseppe Castiglione (1688 - 1766), Jean Damascene (d.1781) and Jean-Denis Attiret (1702 - 1768). More >> |
