Pollinator Tip: Watering Your Garden

There are many ways you can create a garden that's friendly for pollinators.  One of the ways to accomplish this is to water your garden in the morning or dusk to avoid the sun's full heat that may cause water to evaporate.

You can also use mulch or fallen leaves to create a layer of moisture in the soil.  Using a soaker hose is another great option for watering your garden because it slows the infiltration of water into the soil making it more available to plant roots. Soaker hoses also help prevent runoff and erosion of soil and its nutrients.

Lastly, when new plants are installed, simply water at the base of the stem. There is no need to water the surrounding areas since the roots have not spread to these areas.
