NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTERS

Disasters, both natural and man-made, have been in the news recently.

Many people living in Puerto Rico are still without power, running water, gasoline and food. Lest we forget that the residents of Puerto Rico are U.S. citizens. If you would like to help your fellow U.S. citizens, click here, here and  here.

The worst mass-shooting in U.S. history has left dozens dead and hundreds injured. The shooter, who took his own life, has left law enforcement looking for a motive. Many question how one person could get so many firearms as well as why politicians send condolences when they receive money from gun lobbies, both good questions after a mass shooting.  Click here to learn what you can do to help.

Mexico City experienced a 7.1 magnitude earthquake last month, killing nearly 200 people.  Learn how the City is rebuilding and donate here  or here to help.

Thursday, October 19th is the Great California Shake Out an annual earthquake preparedness drill. California is 'earthquake country', learn how you or your organization can participate.  Also, use these valuable resources to help be prepared in the event of a local earthquake.

ISLAM AT HOME AND WORLDWIDE

According to a recent study, one-fifth of the world's nations ranks Islam as its most common faith.  The study's lead researcher, said that her team found a "stronger relationship" between government actions restricting religion and whether the country has an official state religion. The U.S. constitution's first amendment guarantees us the freedom of religion.

How the U.S. government has responded to 'Political Islam' has changed throughout the last century. At times the U.S.  supports one group then later on is against the same group. This is the subject of a new book on the nuances of understanding Islam in the world today
