1800-1900:  Cocktails in the Akerson Tower

1900-2200:  Dinner, titled "With You" honoring Mark Sagerholm

  In Honor of
Captain Mark Sagerholm, USMC

Mark was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps, and after completing The Basic School at Quantico, Virginia, he attended Field Artillery School at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.  Duty with a battery at Camp Pendleton, California, was followed by orders to Aerial Observer School at Cherry Point, North California.  This in turn led to assignment to VMO-2, an OV-10 squadron based at Pendleton.  In early 1987, the squadron deployed to Okinawa for six months, returning to Pendleton.

On 30 December 1987, Mark was flying rear seat in an OV-10, testing a low level laser designation system on the range in the Mojave Desert, working with another OV-10.  Near the end of the test, the other aircraft lost communication with Mark’s plane, and turning back, they saw smoke rising from the ground. Mark’s plane had crashed with no survivors.

Mark had married upon graduation, and had a son, Dane, who was three years old when Mark was killed.  Dane graduated from the Naval Academy in 2008, and was a stalwart on the rugby team at the Academy.  Dane is now a captain in the Marine Corps.

An impromptu Navy Rugby Reunion occurred this past August at the annual Serevi Rugbytown 7s in Glendale, Colorado.   Each year the Armed Forces Rugby Tournament is played within this tournament.

The Armed Forces tournament shifted to 7s in 2012.  The Army won the military competition but Marines won the inaugural "Sea Service Cup" which is competition within the competition between the sea services (USMC, USN, USCG).

Rickey Neel-Feller made the all armed forces team.
