Johnny Walker: the hope of better days ahead

Our hearts are with our Southern California neighbors as they battle the wildfires, we  wish for the safety of everyone in the affected communities.

Johnny and his foster mom Mollie.
The fires in our community have been contained, but carin g for the animals remains  a constant for us here at Sonoma Humane Society. As recovery efforts continue, new stories are un folding each day. Early last week, a family who lost
their home in Fountaingrove was  reunited with their cat who'd been missing for 45 days. Last Friday, three cats just found in the Coffey P ark neighborhood were brought to us. We're giving them safe ty and shelter as we try to find their families.

And then there are those, like Johnny Walker, who have been in our care since before the fires. For each of  these precious lives, we do whatever it takes to give them the hope of better days - even if it looks like a long road ahead.

Johnny Walker arrived at SHS dehydrated, dirty and unable to use his hind legs. Found under a bush ne ar the railroad tracks in July, the young kitten was in desperate need of a little hope.  Read more...

Ziggy: Just one look. That's all it took.
Brittany and her husband had been thinking about getting a dog for a year, but had yet to find the right match. When they came to SHS however, all it took was one look at our lovable goofball Ziggy to fall in love! His snuggly, happy personality won them over in no time. Ziggy will be the only pet in his new home and will be soaking up all the love and hugs he's so fond of!

Julius, orange you glad you got adopted?
This sweet family came in looking to adopt an outgoing cat who would thrive in an active house with two young boys. They took a look around, met Julius and quickly took a liking to the gregarious ginger tom. Where some cats might not appreciate such a flurry of activity, Julius wants to be at the center of it! Before bringing Julius home, the family filled out an adoption application for a barn cat too - we love seeing all of our cats find just the right fit for their unique personalities!

Philby's thrilled to go home!

This gentleman had adopted a rabbit from us in the past. When it was time to adopt again, he returned to SHS in search of his next companion. He came by Bunny Playground one Saturday and fell in love with Philby, a sweet Dutch bunny. However, he needed a little time to get the go-ahead from his landlord. He kept coming in to visit Philby until the day came to bring him home. He even left work early to get in and make the adoption official. Hoppy tails, Philby!
