Scotland's first Geopark needs your help!

A UNESCO Global Geopark home to some of Europe's finest mountain and coastal landscapes needs your help!

The community group running the North West Highland UNESCO Global Geopark in Scotland has launched a crowd funding campaign to raise £70,000 following a funding crisis.  

Dr Beth Taylor, Chair of the UK National Commission for UNESCO, said:

"We strongly support the Geopark's drive to find funding as this will not only help to protect this unique environment for future generations, but also support the staff and communities who use the site to boost local economic development and undertake international earth science education and research."

Bringing SDGs to the UK

An overview of how the UK Government will contribute to the delivery of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals was published by the Department for International Development in March 2017.

The Environmental Audit Committee in the UK Parliament has also  published a report (26 April 2017) suggesting the UK Government has not set out a clear plan to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals. 
A valuable advocacy tool

A UK National Commission for UNESCO policy brief providing a framework for UK organisations to take forward UNESCO’s Recommendation on Documentary Heritage was launched at the British Library in March 2017. 
Nottingham gets creative

Nottingham UNESCO Creative City of Literature has launched a new website to act as a one-stop shop for all things Nottingham and literature.

The website aims to bring together Nottingham’s institutions and individuals, encouraging interaction, discovery and a sense of pride. 
Opportunity for young adults 

Applications are now open for the 2017 Man and the Biosphere Youth Forum.

The Forum is aimed toward offering young people (aged 18-30) the chance to become active in the MAB Programme and to contribute to the sustainable development of their communities. 

The forum will be held at the Po Delta Biosphere Reserve in Italy from 18-23 September 2017.
Natural World Heritage Sites are under threat 

The multi-billion pound illegal wildlife trade is threatening endangered species across 45% of UNESCO Natural World Heritage sites, a new report from the World Wildlife Fund has said.

International Jazz Day

The sixth annual International Jazz Day will be celebrated worldwide on 30 April 2017.

The day will culminate with a concert at the Gran Teatro de La Habana Alicia Alonso, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture of Cuba, the Cuban Institute of Music and the Cuban National Commission for UNESCO.
