THANK YOU!
Thank you to everyone who supported us during the month and throughout the year. We greatly appreciate it. Special thank you to the individuals and businesses that gave to NYEP for Christmas. Our residents had a great year, and this coming year 2013 will be even better. We look forward to working with you again to support young people in their journey to independence.

Dear Friends, Family and Supporters,
Happy New Year NYEP Friends and Family! We can hardly believe that we are already almost in the second week of the New Year, and I hope that it is off to a great start for all of you. In light of the spirit of new beginnings, we thought it important to share with you a recap of some of our successes in 2012. Additionally, and most importantly, we wanted to offer the Reno/Sparks community the opportunity to share your ideas, feedback and suggestions.
While there have been many challenges that NYEP has endured over the past five years, 2012 was a year of internal growth, development and collaborating on program improvements focused around building sustainability. In 2012 we also established some exciting program connections and partnerships in Washoe County that will be more fully realized and implemented in 2013.
Given the challenges we've faced and the successes we've experienced we wanted to share with you our commitments and goals for 2013 and to create an open dialogue around these expectations. Establishing these goals and expectations is a major priority for all on the NYEP team. Below are some of the major initiatives in 2013.
Our priority is and always will be ensuring that we are doing everything we can to create a community whereby our youth can move their lives forward. The strength of the Reno/Sparks community has always been NYEP's biggest asset. Without this critical part of our mission, we can't expect anyone to have the support and emotional capital necessary to overcome the major obstacles often contributing to the cycle of homelessness. In 2013, we are taking a comprehensive look at improving how we translate success on the team into success in life through more robust "Next Steps" goal plans and partnerships including collaboration with other youth housing providers, implementing a targeted workforce development program, improving financial literacy, and taking steps toward creating long-term and reliable employment partnerships with area partners.
The strength of the Reno/Sparks community plus the sweat-equity work ethic of our staff team have equaled a program that has had incredible successes and profound experiences. However, to sustain this success in 2013 and beyond, NYEP is committed to implementing additional structure, support and continued regular evaluation of program and program activities.
As always, thank you for the commitment you have made to NYEP and its residents and alumni. Our commitment is to make Washoe County the strongest community possible for our res, non-res and program partners. We look forward to hearing from you and working with you in 2013 and years beyond!
Sincerely,
Monica DuPea
Executive Director

NYEP Christmas Extravaganza
The girls had a wonderful time opening presents, spending time together, and relaxing.

It was a beautiful Christmas day. With the tree decorated and presents laid underneath, residents could not wait to open gifts. Everyone gathered around in the living room and Tricia played Santa, handing out presents, one by one, from friends and family. What a wonderful Christmas year NYEP had!
Thank you to all who helped make it another memorable Christmas at NYEP!
| Before Christmas residents baked goodies for the holidays. Many different types of treats were made. Staff wrapped presents, excited for each resident to open their gifts. During Christmas, the residents and graduates came over for Christmas day bringing friends and family.

Meet Our New VISTA, Freda!
Freda came to Reno November 27th from Louisiana. Previously Freda attended college at LSU, worked at Job Corps then decided to join NYEP as a VISTA. She has never been to the west coast and is trying to get use to the cold Reno weather. She enjoys listening to music. She wants to start running and exploring the west coast.
