Pop / Rock / Local

Chance, Bob "It's Broken" CD/LP (Trunk UK) 1980 private-press album by California DIY singer-songwriter / disco maverick Bob Chance. Bob Chance's music has been a favorite play on the Doctor Demento Show. Worth it for the "Van Man" song alone.
Future of the Left "the plot against common sense" CD (Xtra Mile) Their latest.
Gates, Rebecca and the Consortium "The Float" LP (12XU) Featuring members of Califone, Godspeed You Black Emperor, The Jicks, Iron and Wine, Los Lobos, Tortoise, Silver Mt. Zion, The Sea and Cake, Wild Flag, Eleventh Dream Day, The Decemberists, Blue Cranes and Portland Cello Project.
Guided By Voices "Class Clown Spots a UFO" CD/LP (GBV Inc) Bob Pollard and company return with more. Looks like GBV is back for a little while longer.
Hot Chip "In Our Heads" CD/LP (Domino) 5th album from English quintet Hot Chip
In Aeternam Vale "Dub" LP (Minimal Wave) Culled from a vast archive of recordings, these tracks were originally self-released on various cassettes by the band's frontman Laurent Prot between 1985-1988. The sound ranges from early EBM/industrial to gristly coldwave.
JAILL "Trapps" CD/LP (Sub Pop) Recorded in 2011 in band-member Vinie Kirchner's basement and mixed at NY's Rare Book Room
May, Dent "Do Things" CD/LP (Paw Tracks) Finding footing somewhere between 60s psychedelia and disco-era balladry in the vein of Ashford and Simpson.
Miles, Wymond "Under The Pale Moon" CD/LP (Sacred Bones) Big romantic pop record from Fresh & Onlys member.
Mum "Early Birds" 2LP LP (Morr Music) Repressed and back in print.
Superchunk "This Summer" 7" (Merge)
Tallest Man On Earth, The "There's No Leaving Now" CD/LP (Dead Oceans) Get a free bonus 7" with purchase while supplies last.

Composer / Experimental
Piche, Jean "Heliograms" LP (Digitalis) Reissue of this early computer music classic, recorded between 1977 and 1980 and one of the first albums to feature music produced almost entirely with digital synthesizers. Definitely music for space travel.
Reibel, Guy "Granulations-Sillages / Franges Du Signe" LP (Recollection GRM) Two sidelong acousmatic compositions from the mid '70s by one of the shining stars of the second wave of French electroacoustic INA GRM studio. Beautiful and essential as always.
DAF "Produkt Der Deutsch-Amerikanischen Freundschaft" LP (Bureau B) Now reissued on vinyl. Originally released in 1979 on Warning Records (later Ata Tak).
Lanham, Eric "The Sincere Interruption" LP (Spectrum Spools) Vacillating between slightly glitchy drones and full on digital noise (though not the harsh kind) from track to track.
PLVS VLTRA "Parthenon" LP (Spectrum Spools) aka Toko Yasuda, better known as the Japanese girl in Blonde Redhead (!), this is pure electronic pop.
Whitman, Keith Fullerton "Occlusions; Real-Time Music For Hybrid Digital-Analogue Modular Synthesizer" LP (Editions Mego) 2 realizations of freely improvised electronic music, the first performed while slightly drunk and happy, the second during a fit of rage. Keith F. Whitman aka Hrvatski, owner of the wonderful distro "Mimaroglu" & all around talented guy.

Hip-Hop
Dam Funk "Direct To Disc" LP (Stones Throw) Recorded live, directly to vinyl at the third of Stones Throw's Direct to Disc events at Capsule Labs in Los Angeles. Dam knows how to throw down so don't worry, it's tight.
Dave Dub "The Treatment" LP (Stones Throw) His full-length Stones Throw debut - a horror film as refracted through the mind of a man who's seen it all and knows too much.
Homeboy Sandman "Chimera" (LP Stones Throw) The second EP.
Jonti "Sine & Moon" LP (Stones Throw)
Quakers "s/t" 2CD (Stones Throw) Quakers is a hip-hop collective boasting 35 members which orbits around a core of three producers: Fuzzface, 7-Stu-7 and Katalyst.
v/a "Bruce Haack Remixes" LP (Stones Throw) Remixes by Peanut Butter Wolf, Samiyam, Prince Language, Jonti, James Pants, Jonwayne.

Metal
Mammoth Grinder 7"
Mantas "Death by Metal" CD/LP (Relapse) Chuck Schuldiner's pre-Death bands demo recordings now officially collected into one fully authorized compilation. The classic line-up of Evil Chuck, Kam Lee and Rick Rozz.
NME "Unholy Death / Machine of War + Bonus" 3LP (The Crypt) This true obscure gem of from 1986 of black death thrash needs no introduction! For the first time ever, the only official vinyl re-issue of N.M.E's cult album "Unholy Death" + "Machine of War" demo as a triple LP set with original 1985/1986 recordings for the LP + demo, carefully remastered. Also included is almost and hour's worth of unreleased rehearsal tracks, outtakes and never before heard songs dating back to 1985. Limited pressing of 500 copies with all the trimmings.

Prog / Psych
Annette Peacock "I'm the One" LP (Future Days) Now on nice heavy vinyl, one of the best records of all time.
Bishop, Sir Richard "Intermezzo" LP (Ideologic Organ) A new set of 9 originals from the madman guitarist from Sun City.
Soebardja, Benny "Gut Rock" LP (Strawberry Rain) Insanely awesome tracks from the '70s Indonesian psych rock scene. Actually Benny may be the most amazing of all, not only being a great guitarist, songwriter & producer, but also these were originally private press records. That makes him one of the godfathers of self-released music, and probably explains how he was able to get so many awesome sounds without a studio telling him what to do. Political and beautiful at the same time.
Soebardja, Benny "Night Train" LP (Strawberry Rain)

Punk
Herpes "s/t" 7" (Goblin Shark) Ex-members of No Fuckers.

Soul / Funk / Jazz
Electric Wire Hustle "s/t" 2LP (BBE) Developing their own sound & twist on modern hip hop, psychedelic & soul.

Techno / Electronic
Aphex Twin "Donkey Rhubarb" CD (Warp) His best EP, from way back in 1995 when "I Care Because You Do" was new.
Coles, Maya Jane "Not Listening (DJ-Kicks)" 12" (K7) Exclusive tracks as a limited edition picture disc.
Fantastic Man "It's Essential" 12" (Let's Play House Records) aka DJ/producer Mic Newman. The title track is crafted around a swinging keyboard line, horn samples, and jazz combo drum breaks.
Taragana Pyjarama "Tipped Bowls" CD (Kompakt) Debut album from Nick Eriksen that scales bass, beats and beyond.

Buenos tardes and hello! It's been a glorious and joy filled week here at FoS; we got an amazing collection of 90's punk and indie rock LPs in (Soundgarden, Misfits, Sisters of Mercy, Super Chunk, Suicidal Tendencies, 5 different Ramones titles, and more) that have hit the floor along with some very interesting hip hop titles.

We have also put out even more vinyl bulk boxes across several genres if you know anyone who is new to the hobby or want to dig out of the box in the comfort of your own livingroom. And don't forget we have odd and collectible LPs and 45s listed on ebay under the accounts "friendsofsound" and "larrystarr". If you see something you are interested in, head to the shop and we will sell it to you at a discount.

Reminder: Coming up in two Saturdays on June 23rd at the Highball we are hosting The New Day - Austin's Premier Soul Night featuring Dreas from Grand Rapids, MI as our guest DJ of the month. Nothing but chunky drums and butts moving on the dance floor be prepared to have fun. No cover and the party goes til 2.
