(2) BeautifulCity.ca Funding Recommendations
BeautifulCity.ca recommends that new arts funding from the billboard tax is focused on meeting the following objectives:
1. Celebrate diverse voices and activate art programs across Toronto.
2. Create and build ownership of vibrant and healthy public spaces.
3. Support Toronto's living artists.
4. Build the capacity of young people.
Without excluding our partners in the LASOs and Majors, we also believe that arms-length, peer reviewed processes such as the TAC should be used wherever possible to distribute the new funds. This will prevent billboard incentives from developing within the City, help safeguard freedom of expression and ensure creative excellence.

(3) Municipal Progress Update
A plan to on how to distribute the first 6 million in 2013 has passed the Economic Development and Culture Committee and will hopefully be approved at the April 3rd and 4th Council. To view the plan please visit: http://tinyurl.com/Yr1EcDevPlan
The Toronto Arts Council has also produced a plan for use of the funds in year one that include a focus on youth, better serving diverse communities and making space for new and innovative program offerings. A plan to enliven the city with art in public spaces (free festivals, installations, public performances, creative interventions, murals, free entrance etc.) is also in the works. BeautifulCity.ca is supportive of these plans going forward without delay so the funds can hit the community this summer. We are looking forward to fruitful dialogue and any concerns coming up during the public consultations. (Dates above.)
Thank you for your time and help in making this amazing opportunity for Toronto a reality! Make sure to check out the new guiding document ( http://www.beautifulcity.ca/BC_GuidingValues.pdf
). Also, looking forward to your participation in the consultations. The billboard tax came out of the Youth Culture Plan Consultations in 2001 so please do bring your voice and big (and small) crazy ideas for making Toronto a better place.
