New Bike Club to Hold Its First Outing This Coming Saturday

"All right folks. We are starting a bike club in West Park called The Wheelers after a former bike club in the area," announced Conor Boylan, owner of 5 Points Coffee and Tea. The club is for all ages and experience levels. The first ride will meet at 5 Points Coffee & Tea, 3600 West Park Road, at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, and then will head to the Metroparks. The goal is to meet new neighbors and friends while becoming more active in our community!

For the kickoff, riders will be invited to enjoy coffee and pastries, compliments of Conor Boylan, before heading out. Sign up to receive email updates at conor@5pointscafe.com. Please invite your friends!

Tour West Park Gardens at GardenWalk Cleveland

This weekend, wear your comfortable shoes to tour outstanding gardens, special feature community gardens, and home orchards. In West Park and Detroit-Shoreway the tour takes place on Saturday, July 7, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. GardenWalk Cleveland is a free, self-guided tour taking place over two days. The second day features gardens in Little Italy, North Collinwood, and Slavic Village. The event was split like this for the first time so that those hosting a garden will have an opportunity to visit the gardens on the other side of town.

Last year, 30 residents from West Park participated, generously giving their time, sharing their knowledge, and inspiring others. They were recognized at our recent Annual Town Meeting. This year, six new gardeners will join the ones featured last year. In addition, the Saint Joseph Academy rain garden will be a special feature on the tour.

New this year, refreshment stations will be located at various gardens. There will be maps, email sign-up sheets, and places to sit. Light refreshments will be offered. You can see the guide online here or pick up a copy at Puritas Nursery (19201 Puritas Avenue) or West Park Station (17015 Lorain Avenue). We hope to see you on the 7th.

Join the Next West Park WOW on July 11

Have you participated in the new summer program called "West Park Walk on Wednesdays" (West Park WOW)? It happens on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month throughout the summer. The walks begin at 6:30 p.m. in front of a new location each time.

The next one is on July 11, and begins at Kamm's Corners Ice Cream Co., 3764 Rocky River Drive, in Kamms Plaza. Cleveland Police First District Commander Daniel Fay will lead the group down Rocky River Drive to the West Park Police and Firefighters Memorial. Then the group will return to the plaza through the neighborhood, ending at Carol & John's Comic Book Shop, 17462 Lorain Avenue, in Kamms Plaza. Round trip, this walk covers about 1.5 miles on level ground.

Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital, the West Park Family YMCA, Kamm's Corners Development, and local merchants have come together to encourage exercise while educating local residents on subjects of interest as well as introducing them to local merchants they may not have visited. Already the walks have attracted a wide range of residents interested in learning more about their neighborhood while meeting some neighbors and achieving fitness goals.
