In November, three new cameras were installed near the nest thanks to a generous donation from David McDonald. Two cameras focus on the nest while one camera provides images of the beautiful area surrounding the nest, including some perches that the eagles use while not on the nest. Below are examples from each camera.
This pan tilt zoom camera provides good close-ups of the nest and allows operators to follow the eagles' movements.
This fixed camera overhead provides good views into the nest and surrounding branches. It can zoom in closer to look for eggs. It also has an infrared illuminator for night time viewing. An ealgle is seen arriving at the nest in the image above.
This pan tilt zoom camera provides excellent views of the Garden, including the Eagle Tribute plaza, on the extreme left of this photo.
Camera operators from the Garden, the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and the Center for Conservation Biology at William & Mary are testing the new equipment and will make final adjustments this month as the 2012 nesting season approaches.
