The Fall New Releases Line-Up - pre-order offer,
 + a new Tomahawk book / decal combo nearing completion,
& an update on the EtchSentials launch items
> The New Releases
This release programme includes three full Decals 'n Docs sets that have been in the works for some time now, as well as a few new Airframe Stencil Data Markings sets that complement the featured aircraft types. All are being produced in multiple scales according to kit availability.

     The RCAF Overseas Catalinas set featured here grew out of a desire to depict the 413 (General Reconnaissance) Squadron "Saviour of Ceylon" action aircraft flown by then S/L Leonard Birchall and crew when, on 4 April 1942, they spotted and reported on the Japanese fleet sailing for Ceylon. This evolved into the wider research project summarized below...

     Similarly, the RCAF Canso A sub-killers project was initiated by the desire to depict F/L David Hornell's Victoria Cross action (24 June 1944) aircraft, as well as others of 162 (Bomber Reconnaissance) Squadron that performed so successfully against U-boats in the Northern Transit Area while operating out of Reykjavík, Iceland, and Wick, Scotland, in the summer of 1944. Again, the project widened to include other aircraft that were in service either side of that epic performance. Please scroll down for more...

     The final full Decals 'n Docs set within this release programme features a collection of Eagle Squadron Spitfire Mk.VBs presented in the same profile and finish and markings scheme intensive way as our perennially popular Vital Storm Hurricane sets. This project grew out of in (Terry's) personal interest in the subject of American fighter pilots in the RCAF and RAF prior to the advent of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. Please scroll down for details...

     Two new additions to our multi-scale Airframe Stencil Data Markings line-up - one for the various Consolidated Model 28 (PBY, etc) versions and the other for early marque Spitfires - complement these releases (see below...).

> RCAF Tomahawks
   New AviaDossier style book and related decals in the works
Since the 1980s, veteran researcher / author / publisher / and longtime Aviaeology associate Carl Vincent has been working on a history of any and all Canadian connections to the Curtiss Hawk series of single-engined fighters. Carl has reinstated the project within the decade that we have been working together and the first volume is currently in layout here. With the four RCAF Overseas squadrons (Nos. 400, 403, 414, & 430) that operated the Tomahawk at its core, extensive photographic coverage, and a range of Terry's colour profiles spread throughout, it promises to be a must-have for modellers and armchair historians alike. If you liked our AviaDossier I: Canadian Aircraft of WWII, you'll love this one. A comprehensive decal set designed to complement the book, featuring aircraft of all three squadrons, is also in the works.
     As the layout and illustration phase wraps up and we lock in a print-production schedule, we'll provide some visuals - likely in the final newsletter edition of 2016.

> EtchSentials Update
The Mosquito R/P Rig and Gee Cockpit Components photo-etched detail sets that many of you pre-ordered from our previous newsletter are running a little late - most probably by two to three weeks. Due to late-comer pre-order demand, for most of the sets involved we had to add a second order for additional quantities over and above our initial order, and this has introduced a minor work-in-progress complication. The situation should be resolved and pre-orders either in the mail or very close to it by the time our next newsletter is scheduled to post on November 3rd/4th.
     Meanwhile, we plan to commit to larger initial order quantities for additional EtchSential sets now in development. Near-future releases include a range of sets covering external radar and external armament details for both Beaufighters and PBY / Catalina / Canso type aircraft. If all goes to plan, these will feature in one of the two final newsletters planned for 2016.

This pre-order promotion features new releases discounted in the 10% to 15% range (details are given in each entry below). The promotion ends at midnight on November 6th, 2016, at which time the discount links will be removed. All sets will be available at the regular price (get the current product price list here) in our eShop on eBay once they are in stock (anticipated, late-December - early-January).
RCAF Overseas Catalinas
Catalina Mk.I, Mk.IB, & Mk.IVBs - 413 & 422 Squadrons
  This set features five 413 Sqn and one 422 Sqn Catalina aircraft for which enough of a photographic record exists to reconstruct finish scheme and markings features to a good degree of accuracy. Bonus options include two additional Catalinas of 413 Sqn for which the graphic reconstructions have been made based largely on a study of adjacent aircraft (in terms of factory serial proximity and squadron markings habits of the day, etc)  in lieu of a more direct photographic record.

The aircraft depicted in this set are:
> Catalina Mk.I W8427 / QL*G, Sullom Voe, Scotland 1941-'42 / Koggala, Ceylon, 1942-43
S/L Birchall's usual aircraft complete with "bomb-slinging Canadian Cat" nose art. Flown to Ceylon by the Squadron OC, W/C Plant, and crew.

> Catalina Mk.IB FP103 / DG*A (422 Squadron) UK & USSR, force landed in the Shetlands during extreme weather encountered while enroute home from a northern USSR detachment, September1942.

> Catalina Mk.I W8412 / B ("Coeur De Lion" inscription nose art), Koggala, 1942-43 - an example of an early Mk.I aircraft refinished with mid/late 1942 era markings while in Ceylon.

> Catalina Mk.IB FP306 / D, Koggala, 1942-43 - a Mk.IB in original factory finish and fitted with the full radar suite.

> Catalina Mk.IB FP182 / G, Koggala, early/mid 1944-43 - a Mk.IB in field-modified "mostly white" ASW finish and fitted with the full radar suite. SEAC style national markings.

> Catalina Mk.I AJ155 / QL*A (bonus option), Koggala, 4 April 1942 - The "Saviour of Ceylon "
sortie aircraft - graphic reconstruction based on other 413 Sqn attrition replacement aircraft received prior to the move from UK to Ceylon.

> Catalina Mk.IVB JX276 / Z (bonus option), Koggala, early / mid 1944 - graphic reconstruction of a Canadian-built Mk.IVB as delivered to the squadron while in Ceylon. SEAC style national markings.

The Docs portion of this set, presented in eight 8.5x11 inch pages, features articles (notes with photos and/or scale illustrations) on:
- Catalina Mk.I / Mk.IB wing centre-section (structure & armaments to RAF specification);
- Catalina Mk.IVB wing centre-section (PBY structure with RAF-specific armament mods);
- Defensive armament variations, illustrating differences between marques & sub-variants;
- ASV.II radar aerials - progressive variations & other RAF-specific aerials installations.
- A c omprehensive RAF Coastal Command and later SEAC Catalina finish and markings guide;
- Each individual aircraft is covered in profile illustration form - some are complemented with period photographs in the usual Aviaeology style. **

Available in 1/72 & 1/48 scales and as deeper-discounted combo sets that include our Catalina Airframe Stencil Data Markings.*

* The Stencil / Data Markings sets are also available separately further down the page.
** Laser-printed b&w hardcopy supplied in the package, Home-printable colour PDF version available via email after purchase.

Eagle Squadron Spitfire Mk.VBs
71, 121, & 133 Squadrons, RAF - the American Volunteers

Sparked by the arrival of Phil Listemann's compact but nonetheless comprehensive monographs on Nos. 71 and 121 "Eagle" Squadrons (Philedition, 2010) when they first came out, this project's research tome eventually grew to include the same publisher's monograph on the third of the RAF's American Eagles, No 133 Squadron, as well as a number of older broad-brush books on the same subject, and a particularly good  monograph (Terry's opinion) on the Spitfire Mk.VB by Mushroom Model Publications.
   The ten photo-documented Spitfire Mk.VB aircraft featured are presented in carefully interpreted graphic reconstructions. The smaller scale sets include two complete sets of national markings, so two models could be built from one set if the modeler selects one with each type of national markings.
   The larger 1/32 and 1/24 scale coverage is split into two independent part-sets each, divvied up according to the type of national markings used; part 1 (AOD32019.1 and '24019.1) features aircraft with the early war "type A" fuselage and tail national markings, while part 2 (AOD32019.2 and '24019.2) features aircraft with reduced-white "type C" fuselage and tail markings. The (pt.1) and (pt.2) labels in the subject list below indicate the larger set featuring any given subject.

The aircraft depicted in this collection are:
71 Squadron
> AB875 / XR*X, Martlesham Heath, February 1942
aircraft nicknamed 'Little Joe' with Eagle Squadron motif nose art, P/O Joe Kelly. (pt.1)

> AB908 / XR*Y, Kirton-in-Lindsey, November 1941
P/O Carrol 'Red' McCoplin. (pt.1)

> AD196 / XR*Q, Martlesham Heath, February 1942
one of several squadron aircraft nicknamed 'Miss North Dallas' with Victor France originated Texas Flag nose art, various pilots. (pt.1)

> BL287 / XR*C, Martlesham Heath, March 1942
Sioux Chief's head motif nose art, P/O Leo Nomis. (pt.1)

121 Squadron
> W3711 / AV*H, Kirton-in-Lindsey, December 1941
P/O Richard Patterson (features neat gambler-theme "tail art" adjacent to serial number on port side). (pt.1)

> BM405 / AV*J, Southend, June 1942
aircraft nicknamed 'Barry', P/O "Barry" Mahon. (pt.2)

> BM581 / AV*P, Southend, July 1942
Uncle Sam's Hat & 13 stars nose art, P/O Bill Kelly. (pt.2)

> BM590 / AV*R, Southend, July 1942
aircraft nicknamed 'Olga', P/O Gilbert Halsey. (pt.2)

133 Squadron
> BM263 / MD*A, Kirton-in-Lindsey, April 1942
'Mine's a Bitter' nose art with Squadron Leader's rank pennant, S/L Eric Thomas. (pt.2)

> EN951 / MD*U, Biggin Hill, late summer 1942
P/O Don Blakeslee. (pt.2)

The Docs are comprised mainly of subject specific (i.e. not generic) paint and markings guides - multi-view colour depictions indicating  the propeller, exhaust, and canopy variations applicable to each machine.

Available in 1/72, 148, 1/32, & 1/24 scales and in discounted combo sets with our Early Spitfire Airframe Stencil Data Markings.*

Eight 8.5 x 11 inch pages of documentation, including finishing notes, and clear scale illustrations. **

RCAF Canso A (PBY-5A) collection #1
The sub-killers of 162 (BR) Squadron
This set features six 162 (BR) Sqn Canso A amphibian aircraft for which enough of a photographic record exists to reconstruct finish scheme and markings features to a good degree of accuracy. Bonus options include four of the squadron's other significant action aircraft, for which the graphic reconstructions have been made based largely on a study of adjacent aircraft (in terms of factory serial proximity and squadron markings habits of the day, etc)  in lieu of a more direct photographic record.

The aircraft depicted in this set are:
> Canso A 9750 / DZ*A, Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, 1942-43 - representative of a Consolidated-built Canso A in the Squadron's initial Eastern Air Command finish and markings scheme.

> Canso A 9840 / J, "HAIRLESS JOE"- Reykjavík - a representative Canadian Vickers built attrition replacement aircraft (received after the June/July Ubat losses).

> Canso A 11090 / X, Reykjavík - late 1944 / early 1945 - representative of the late Canadian Vickers built, ASV polyplexer-equipped Canso As received during the last phase of the Squadron's ops from Iceland.
